Erika Kirk Gets Influential Military Role

President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk to serve on the Board of Visitors for the United States Air Force Academy, the powerful federal oversight body that her late husband, Charlie Kirk, served on before his assassination last September.

The Board of Visitors functions similarly to a board of trustees and carries a mandate under federal law to scrutinize the academy’s morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment and fiscal affairs at the Colorado Springs institution.

The board’s 15-member composition draws from both the executive and legislative branches.

Six members receive presidential appointments, while Congressional leaders from both parties designate the remaining nine, including the chairmen and ranking members of both Armed Services Committees.

Trump’s other appointees to the board include Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma, Meta Vice Chairman Dina Powell and Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Erika Kirk, 37, assumed leadership of Turning Point USA following her husband’s death.

The conservative student advocacy organization was founded by Charlie Kirk, and Erika now serves as its chief executive officer.

She is also a mother of three and has become a visible presence in Washington.

She was recently honored at Trump’s State of the Union address and has been a frequent guest at the White House.

Representative August Pfluger of Texas chairs the Board of Visitors. Pfluger is a combat veteran and a graduate of the Air Force Academy.

Pfluger issued a statement following the appointment: “I applaud President Trump for appointing Erika Kirk to the US Air Force Academy Board of Visitors.”

Pfluger continued: “I encouraged this appointment as Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy.”

“I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy.”

At the board’s December meeting, a public submission paid tribute to Charlie Kirk’s efforts to advance a long-delayed renovation of the Air Force Academy’s chapel.

The submission urged board members to prioritize the project in his memory.

That December session covered a wide range of topics, including a superintendent’s briefing and a classified discussion on Flexible Warfare Center concepts — matters central to how the next generation of Air Force officers will be trained.

The December meeting also heard a formal complaint involving nine seniors on the academy’s men’s soccer team.

The complaint alleged the students were wrongly subjected to 100 hours of marching tours after academy leadership held misconduct allegations for six months before taking action, the Daily Mail has reported.
