Woke Disney Fails Again: Cancels THIS Big Show After Only One Season

How do you bomb with a franchise that is almost literally a licence to print money? A Disney subsidiary found a way.

Season of the The Acolyte is finished. There will not be a season two. Not even being set in the Star Wars univers was enough to save it from itself.

The story of The Acolyte will not continue, with Lucasfilm opting not to proceed with a second season of the Star Wars offshoot starring Amandla Stenberg, sources tell Deadline.

Word of the decision comes more than a month after the eight-episode first season of the series from creator, director, executive producer and showrunner Leslye Headland wrapped its run on Disney+. — Deadline

Oh no. How sad for them. What could possibly have gone wrong?

Screenrant assures it it had nothing to do with the Go Woke Go Broke principle. They blamed a lame plot/storyline:

However, after the first few episodes of The Acolyte, it became difficult to identify who the true main character was. Following the premiere, the show began to focus in nearly equal measure on Master Sol, Qimir/the Stranger, and Vernestra Rwoh. While, yes, any show will include a host of characters, The Acolyte felt torn between them. Each of the major characters seemed to have their own backstory, motivations, and narrative arc, which became too much to cover in the very brief eight-episode season.

That claim ignores the possibility that two things can be true at the same time. It could be a bad plot WITH an activist storyline.

GB News contends that’s exactly what went wrong:

Openly gay Headland publicly derided the original Star Wars film franchise, branding them “political films” during a 2020 interview.

She also relished and welcomed the idea that she’d created the “gayest Star Wars ever” telling an interviewer: “Frankly… I’m into it.”

Headland has also branded white women a “silent killer” for reinforcing “old ideas” and hit back at criticism of The Acolyte’s overt LGBTQ+ themes as “reductive”.

But it isn’t just Headland’s involvement and the cast – led by the non-binary Stenberg – that prompted wariness from Star Wars fans but also the contents of the series itself.

In particular, one scene in episode three of the series sparked worldwide debate among the sci-fi franchise’s fandom after it revealed the parentage of Osha and her twin sister Mae (also Stenberg).
Instead of revealing a male father, it was implied that two powerful witches belonging to an all-female coven on Brendok used “The Force” to produce their female offspring – twins Osha and Mae.

The same complaint atheists would have about some of the Christian Message-hamfistedly-crammed-into-a-plotline films can be true when Woke Evangelists come peddling their worldview to an unsuspecting or uninterested public.

When the preachiness turns an audience off, the audience turns off their TVs.

And now, there’s no second season. In the process, they are grinding into dust any public trust and loyalty there had been to the original franchise.

If only someone could have warned them that going woke could negatively impact a business model. Oh wait… we did. They were just too pompous to listen to anything the plebs had to say about it.
