Trump Makes History With Monumental Move

President Donald Trump announced Friday that his administration plans to build a National Garden of American Heroes in Washington as part of a broader effort tied to the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.

Trump revealed the project in a post on Truth Social, saying the monument garden will be constructed in West Potomac Park along the Potomac River.

“I am proud to announce the site of the NATIONAL GARDEN OF AMERICAN HEROES,” Trump wrote while unveiling the proposal.

According to Trump, the project will feature a large outdoor collection of statues honoring prominent figures throughout American history.

“This magnificent exhibition of statues will be located in West Potomac Park, which we are transforming into one of the World’s most beautiful public spaces,” Trump said.

The president described the current condition of the park as underdeveloped and said the administration plans to redesign the area with landscaping, monuments and expanded public attractions.

“Right now, it is a totally BARREN field of Prime Waterfront Real Estate along our Mighty Potomac River,” Trump wrote in the announcement.

Trump said the completed project would become a “World Class Masterpiece” intended to attract visitors from across the US and internationally.

According to the president, the National Garden of American Heroes will honor a broad range of historical figures from politics, sports, religion, entertainment and civil rights.

“The National Garden of American Heroes will feature the MOST BEAUTIFUL collection of statues of AMERICAN HEROES,” Trump wrote.

He said the monument garden would include statues recognizing “Founding Fathers, Military Warriors, Religious Leaders, Civil Rights Champions, World Class Athletes, Artists, Entertainers, and MORE.”

Trump framed the project as part of a larger national effort commemorating America’s 250th birthday in 2026.

“The people of America (and the World!) will come here to learn and be inspired by the ‘Greats,’” Trump said while discussing the project’s purpose.

The National Garden proposal was initially introduced during Trump’s earlier presidency but was never completed before he left office.

The latest announcement appears to significantly expand the original concept and tie it more directly to the administration’s broader redesign plans for Washington.

The monument garden is one of several large-scale projects Trump has recently proposed for the nation’s capital.

Among the additional projects announced by the administration is a major renovation of the reflecting pool near the Lincoln Memorial.

Trump has also discussed construction of a massive “Independence Arch” near Arlington National Cemetery.

According to previous White House statements, the proposed arch would stand approximately 250 feet tall in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously said the structure would become taller than any existing building in Washington.

The proposed arch would require approval from Congress and the National Capital Planning Commission before construction could begin.

Trump has also announced plans for additional White House renovations, including the construction of a ballroom as part of broader changes to federal spaces in Washington, per the Conservative Brief.

The administration said some of the projects, including the proposed Independence Arch, could be funded privately rather than entirely through taxpayer funding.

The Associated Press previously reported the proposed arch would be located between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery within a major traffic circle connecting Washington to northern Virginia.
