Authorities had the suspect’s name earlier but delayed its release due to its commonality, wanting to ensure the correct identity before making it public, according to ABC News.
The Incident and Investigation
The truck involved in the attack crossed the U.S.-Mexico border at Eagle Pass, Texas, on November 16. Reports indicate that the electric Ford F-150 was rented through the Turo car-sharing app.
Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick stated that the suspect aimed to cause significant destruction. After driving into a crowd, he exited the vehicle and opened fire, killing 10 people and injuring at least 35 others.
Police engaged in a firefight with the suspect, ultimately killing him. Two officers were also injured. The FBI is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack.
Speculation About ISIS Flag
There has been speculation regarding a flagpole on the truck, with some suggesting it displayed an ISIS flag. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser addressed the rumors, explaining that a reporter had asked him to confirm the presence of an ISIS flag on the truck, but he could not verify the claim.
“I don’t want to start a rumor, that was just what he heard,” Nungesser said during an interview.
Press Conference Scheduled
