Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-MN) whereabouts have become the subject of growing speculation after the Minnesota Democrat reportedly remained out of public view following a federal raid on her Washington, D.C., residence earlier this week.
Omar has not been publicly spotted since Homeland Security Investigations agents searched her home Monday, October 12, prompting unverified rumors that the congresswoman may have left the United States.
Her husband, Democratic political consultant Tim Mynett, was confronted about those claims Wednesday while making several appearances outside the couple’s rented Washington residence.
According to footage published by Fox News, Mynett was seen walking the family’s Labrador retriever, Teddy, taking out the trash and accompanying one of Omar’s congressional staffers.
During one encounter, a reporter directly questioned him about speculation surrounding his wife’s whereabouts.
“There are rumors that the congresswoman left the country, is that true?” the reporter asked.
Rather than directly addressing the question, Mynett expressed frustration with reporters gathering outside the residence.
“You guys are annoying the hell out of all the neighbors around here, man,” Mynett responded.
The exchange has added attention to Omar’s absence from public appearances following the federal search.
However, authorities have not announced that Omar left the country, and no credible evidence has emerged establishing that she fled the United States.
The controversy comes as the congresswoman faces multiple federal investigations involving her immigration history and financial disclosures.
Federal agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington residence Monday as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
The Justice Department confirmed that Homeland Security Investigations conducted the search under a warrant obtained by federal prosecutors, although officials have released limited information about the evidence being sought.
According to Reuters, a sealed warrant identifies conspiracy, immigration fraud and false statements among the potential offenses investigators are examining.
Authorities are reportedly investigating whether false information was submitted during immigration and naturalization proceedings involving Omar and members of her family.
Federal officials are also examining whether any established immigration fraud could provide grounds for proceedings to revoke her American citizenship.
Omar, who was born in Somalia, arrived in the United States as a refugee in 1995 and became a naturalized citizen in 2000.
She has repeatedly denied allegations of immigration fraud.
Meanwhile, her husband has become connected to a separate investigation involving the couple’s financial disclosures.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced Tuesday that federal authorities were examining changes in the reported value of Mynett’s business interests.
Omar’s 2024 congressional financial disclosure listed ownership interests in a winery and venture-capital advisory business at valuations potentially placing the couple’s assets in the millions.
However, subsequent filings reportedly assigned those interests a value of zero, raising questions about the discrepancies.
Omar’s office has maintained that the earlier disclosure incorrectly reflected the businesses’ total equity rather than Mynett’s individual ownership stake and did not properly account for liabilities, per the Conservative Brief.
The financial investigation is separate from the immigration inquiry that led to Monday’s search.
The federal scrutiny comes less than three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, when Omar is seeking another term representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.
Prominent Democrats, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have criticized the investigation, accusing the Trump administration of targeting a political opponent.
The Justice Department has maintained that the search was authorized by a federal judge.
No criminal charges have been filed against Omar, and investigators have not publicly established that she committed any offense.
For now, Omar’s whereabouts remain unconfirmed in the reporting, while speculation surrounding her absence continues following the federal operation.
