A photo of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, an alleged terrorist, has been released following his arrest for planning a terrorist attack on Election Day. Tawhedi, a 27-year-old Afghan immigrant residing in Oklahoma City, was charged after an FBI investigation revealed that he was stockpiling automatic weapons to carry out an attack. It was also revealed that Tawhedi had entered the United States on parole, granted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). KOCO reported on the release of his photo.
When asked about how Tawhedi was allowed into the country, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas did not provide details. A reporter pressed Mayorkas, asking, “How was this man brought into the U.S.? What screening did he undergo?” Mayorkas declined to answer at the time, stating that he was focused on addressing the crisis of Hurricane Milton and would be willing to discuss the issue in a different setting.
The White House also refrained from commenting on Tawhedi’s specific case but reiterated that all Afghan nationals are screened and vetted before entering the U.S.
The FBI released a statement on Tuesday detailing the charges against Tawhedi, stating, “According to a criminal complaint filed today, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, conspired and attempted to provide material support to ISIS and obtained firearms and ammunition to conduct a violent attack on U.S. soil in the name of ISIS. The defendant allegedly took steps to liquidate his family’s assets, resettle members of his family overseas, acquire AK-47 assault rifles and ammunition, and commit a terrorist attack in the United States.”
