A former local Fox television anchor, labeled as “glamorous” by Trending Politics, has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to murdering her 80-year-old mother during a violent Halloween stabbing inside a Kansas home.
Angelynn Mock, 48, was sentenced Monday after admitting to first-degree murder in the death of Anita Avers.
Avers was found critically injured inside her Wichita bedroom on Oct. 31, 2025.
Mock received life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years.
During the sentencing hearing, Avers’ stepdaughter, Sonja Kreutziger, described the killing as shocking and completely out of character for the woman the family thought they knew.
“The person I knew as gentle, kind Angie did not just murder her mom; she ambushed Anita while Anita was in bed asleep,” Kreutziger told the court.
She called the attack “devastating,” “calculated” and “demonic.”
According to court records, police found Avers unresponsive in her bed wearing only underwear and a bra.
She had suffered multiple stab wounds to her face and torso.
Investigators also found several kitchen knives and a cheese grater placed on a pillow next to her.
Authorities said all of the utensils were covered in blood.
Mock herself called 911 following the attack.
She initially claimed she had acted in self-defense.
According to the affidavit, Mock told the dispatcher that her mother had tried to kill her and that she stabbed her in response.
When officers arrived at the home, they found Mock outside holding a towel against her blood-covered hands.
Avers was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries.
Mock later told investigators that she had walked into her mother’s bedroom and found her “sharpening knives.”
She claimed Avers then came at her with a knife and the two began fighting.
According to police records, Mock also alleged that her mother made a bizarre statement during the confrontation, telling her, “I know you’re f***ing Jesus Christ.”
Mock said she initially backed away.
She then told investigators that she grabbed a knife and eventually got on top of her mother.
Court documents also show Mock told police she stabbed Avers because her mother “started spewing venom at me out of her f***ing mouth.”
Her explanation later shifted again.
Mock told investigators that she had originally entered her mother’s bedroom to talk about a possible upcoming job interview with KSN, an NBC affiliate.
She said she was pursuing the opportunity because she had previously worked as a news anchor.
Mock had spent years in local television before the killing.
She worked as an anchor for KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 until 2015.
She also previously worked at KOKH Fox 25 in Oklahoma City.
Her stepfather, Barry Avers, told police that Mock’s time at the St. Louis station ended after what authorities described as an “explosive situation involving alcohol.”
By the time of her arrest, Mock was reportedly working in sales for a data management software company.
Before entering her guilty plea, questions were raised about whether she was mentally competent to stand trial.
Mock underwent a formal competency evaluation.
In July, a judge ruled that she was competent to proceed with the case.
That cleared the way for the criminal proceedings to move forward.
Mock ultimately pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.
At Monday’s sentencing hearing, she said very little.
Her only notable statement was that she did not intend to appeal the sentence.
The punishment brings an end to a case that marked a dramatic fall for a former television personality who once appeared on-air in several major local markets.
Mock will now spend at least 25 years behind bars before she can become eligible for parole.
