FBI Search Ends in Shocking Charges for Ex-Dem Lawmaker

Former Pennsylvania state Rep. Jesse White is facing federal child pornography charges after an FBI investigation led agents to search his Cumberland County home, where authorities allege they found more than 100 files depicting child sexual abuse material on electronic devices.

White, 48, a Democrat who represented Pennsylvania’s 46th Legislative District from 2007 to 2015, was charged in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania with possession of child pornography and receipt and distribution of child pornography, according to court records.

He represented communities in Allegheny, Beaver, and Washington counties before losing his bid for reelection in 2014.

According to federal court documents, the investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline received two reports linked to White.

One involved a Google file allegedly depicting a nude prepubescent child, while another involved an image of a child in a compromising position.

The reports were forwarded to the FBI after being flagged through the CyberTipline.

Court documents also state they were flagged for suspected child pornography possession, distribution, and manufacture, according to WTAE.

The FBI executed a federal search warrant at White’s Mechanicsburg home on July 21, seizing multiple laptop computers, hard drives, and other electronic devices.

According to the affidavit, investigators recovered more than 100 files depicting child sexual abuse material involving children estimated to be between the ages of 7 and 15.

Investigators also alleged that some files on one laptop were organized into categories based on the content they depicted, WHTM reported.

Investigators allege White told agents he used Telegram, qBittorrent, the Tor Browser, ProtonMail, and other online platforms to access content through the dark web.

He initially described the material on his devices as “inappropriate content” before allegedly acknowledging it was child pornography.

Authorities also allege he used encrypted messaging and file-sharing platforms in connection with the alleged offenses.

White was arrested after the FBI investigation and federal charges. A criminal complaint or indictment contains allegations, and White is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Court records show he was scheduled to appear before a federal judge for a detention hearing following his arrest. A federal public defender was appointed to represent him, the Herald-Standard reported.

Before entering state politics, White graduated from Duquesne University School of Law, worked as an attorney, and served as a Cecil Township supervisor.

He was first elected to the Pennsylvania House in 2006 and later sought additional public offices after leaving the legislature, including unsuccessful campaigns for district judge and to regain his former House seat.

White’s current federal case follows earlier legal issues unrelated to the present allegations.

His law license was suspended before he was disbarred in 2017 following disciplinary proceedings involving allegations that he misused client funds.

In 2018, he was charged with theft of services and deceptive business practices in a separate matter.

According to the Herald-Standard, those charges were later withdrawn after White underwent mental health and gambling addiction treatment.

The case remains under investigation as it moves through the federal court system.
