Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) is facing a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation, according to multiple reports citing sources familiar with the matter.
The specific focus of the DOJ probe remains unclear, though reports indicate that at least part of the investigation involves Mills’ finances.
Mills’ office has not confirmed the existence of the investigation and has pushed back against the reports.
The Florida congressman said on social media that claims based on anonymous sources were “fake news” and criticized reports about an investigation that has not been publicly confirmed by the DOJ.
The federal inquiry comes as Mills is already facing a separate review by the House Ethics Committee.
In November, the committee established an investigative subcommittee to examine allegations involving campaign finance violations, sexual misconduct, and dating violence.
Mills has denied wrongdoing.
The Ethics Committee review includes allegations involving Mills’ personal conduct, campaign activity, and financial disclosures.
One allegation stems from a February 2025 incident in which police responded to a report involving alleged domestic abuse, according to Trending Politics.
Another involves claims from a former romantic partner who alleged Mills threatened to release explicit images after their relationship ended. A judge later issued a restraining order involving the former girlfriend.
Mills has denied the allegations and said the claims misrepresent his interactions.
The committee is also examining allegations that Mills may have violated campaign finance laws, failed to properly report certain financial information, improperly accepted gifts connected to travel, misused congressional resources, and received special favors by virtue of his position.
The review followed an earlier report from the Office of Congressional Ethics that examined concerns involving Mills’ financial disclosures and campaign activities.
The Office of Congressional Ethics report also raised questions about Mills’ business interests and whether his government contracting activities created potential conflicts while he served in Congress.
The report also examined Mills’ company and its government-related work while he held congressional positions involving national security matters.
Mills has pushed back against the scrutiny, saying the reports are based on unverified claims. “No, I’m not concerned about losing POTUS endorsement,” Mills said in a statement to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.
He added that outlets reporting an investigation without DOJ confirmation were spreading “fake news.”
Mills was first elected to represent Florida’s 7th Congressional District in 2022 and won reelection in 2024, according to ABC News.
Mills currently holds seats on two influential congressional panels: the House Armed Services Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence..
The congressman is seeking a third term and faces several Republican challengers in the upcoming primary election.
Mills has also faced previous allegations involving his military background, business dealings, and personal conduct.
The DOJ investigation comes as Mills campaigns for reelection. One Republican challenger has called on him to leave the race.
“While Congressman Mills deserves his due process, it was time for me to step up and say the negative headlines surrounding the district must stop,” said Ryan Elijah. “Volusia and Seminole County residents deserve better.”
No criminal charges have been filed against Mills, and details about the federal probe remain limited.
