Former Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino is signaling that he may enter the 2028 presidential race, launching an exploratory effort alongside a policy platform centered on border security, mass deportations, and restoring American sovereignty.
Bovino retired in March after nearly three decades with the U.S. Border Patrol, where he became a prominent figure tied to President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement agenda.
Since leaving federal service, he has remained a vocal advocate for tougher border policies and expanded deportation efforts.
The exploratory effort includes a newly launched website that outlines his potential campaign vision, emphasizing national sovereignty, strict border enforcement, and what it describes as a ‘warrior mindset’ approach to governance.
Under a section titled “Why We Need a Bovino Presidency,” the site calls for a total border closure, a permanent immigration pause, immediate deportations of illegal aliens, and an “illegal remigration fee.”
It also proposes a federal office focused on justice for American women harmed by illegal aliens.
Additional proposals include creating a Department of Traditional Families & Holistic Living, a Department of Youth Masculinity, expanded community safety committees, and a restructured government accountability office aimed at rooting out corruption.
The platform also calls for a citizen-led initiative promoting debates and educational forums centered on Western values and American cultural identity.
Other ideas outlined on the site include expanded Narcan distribution to law enforcement, schools, and first responders, tougher penalties for crimes against animals, and closer partnerships with countries facing similar immigration challenges.
The platform also suggests expedited acceptance of immigrants from nations it describes as culturally aligned with the United States.
Bovino’s exploratory move follows months of public advocacy since leaving government service.
He has continued to push for large-scale deportation operations and stricter enforcement measures, arguing that stronger action is needed to address illegal immigration.
In comments previously reported by The Daily Beast, he said, “If I were President, I’d lead that effort from the front and be on the front lines from time to time.”
In a post on X reacting to reports of his political exploration, Bovino wrote, “My one and only priority is deporting the 106 million illegals who are here. That’s it.”
He added that grassroots support suggests public backing for mass deportations is stronger than polling reflects, concluding that “all options are on the table” if a presidential run is necessary to achieve those goals.
He has also criticized officials he believes are not acting aggressively enough on immigration enforcement, including border czar Tom Homan, Homeland Security Secretary (DHS) Markwayne Mullin, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
Mullin responded, “I’ve never met the guy … he’s irrelevant to me. I don’t know who he is,” NewsNation reported.
The potential campaign has also drawn attention over imagery on Bovino’s website, including a photo of him wearing a Border Patrol-issued coat that critics have compared to “SS garb.”
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was among those raising concerns, though Bovino has rejected the comparison and said the coat has been part of his uniform for more than 25 years.
Questions about his tenure resurfaced after he was removed from his commander-at-large role following a federal immigration operation in Minneapolis that ended in fatal shootings.
President Trump later described Bovino as “a pretty out there kind of a guy,” adding, “And in some cases, that’s good. Maybe it wasn’t good here.”
Whether Bovino ultimately enters the 2028 race remains uncertain, but his exploratory effort signals a more formal step toward a potential campaign focused heavily on immigration, border security, and national sovereignty.
