DeSantis Shocks Nation With Dangerous Food Discovery

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), First Lady Casey DeSantis, and State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced this week that testing conducted under the state’s Healthy Florida First initiative has identified glyphosate, a widely used herbicide, in several nationally sold bread products.

The program, which aims to increase transparency in food safety, provides Floridians with actionable information to make healthier choices for their families.

This announcement builds on previous efforts under the initiative, which analyzed infant formula and candy products for chemical and heavy metal contaminants.

Last month, Resist the Mainstream reported that the Department of Health (DOH) tested 24 infant formula products and 46 candy items from major brands, uncovering elevated levels of mercury, arsenic, cadmium, and lead in several samples.

Officials highlighted the risks posed to children, emphasizing the need for consistent, reliable data to guide consumer decisions.

Expanding on those efforts, DOH tested eight bread products across five widely sold national brands.

Glyphosate was detected in six of the eight breads, including Nature’s Own Butterbread, Nature’s Own Perfectly Crafted White, Wonder Bread Classic White, and Sara Lee Honey Wheat.

No glyphosate was found in Sara Lee Artesano White or Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse White.

During the announcement, First Lady Casey DeSantis emphasized the importance of consumer awareness and transparency.

She noted that chemicals labeled unsafe can persist quietly in everyday foods, framing the initiative as a proactive step toward strengthening food safety nationwide.

“Floridians deserve clear information about what is in their food,” she said, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to empowering families with reliable data.

State Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo addressed the potential health impacts of glyphosate exposure, including gut microbiome disruption, liver inflammation, and neurological effects.

According to Florida’s Voice, he stressed that bread is a staple for many households and that families should not have to worry about hidden toxins in essential foods.

“Eighty percent of Americans have glyphosate in their urine,” he said, highlighting the ubiquity of exposure and the importance of independent testing.

Dr. Ladapo also addressed concerns that reducing glyphosate use could disrupt the food supply, arguing that sustainable alternatives exist that allow for safe and nutritious production.

“It is possible to grow food without exposing people to harmful chemicals,” he said, linking the initiative to broader goals of environmental responsibility and public health protection.

The results are publicly available at ExposingFoodToxins.com, ensuring that all Americans have direct access to information that may influence dietary decisions and reinforce accountability among food manufacturers.

Officials said the initiative reflects Florida’s commitment to evidence-based public health measures while protecting the rights of consumers to make informed choices.

DeSantis framed the findings as part of Florida’s broader mission to set a national standard for health freedom, aligning with the MAHA movement’s emphasis on empowering individuals to make informed choices about their well-being.

“Today’s testing provides families with crucial knowledge about the products they consume every day,” he said, highlighting that the Healthy Florida First initiative reflects the state’s ongoing effort to protect public health, promote personal responsibility, and create a model other states can follow.

For supporters of MAHA, the announcement underscores a commitment to transparency, safer products, and innovation in keeping Americans healthy.
