BREAKING: Suspect in stabbing of 14-year-old girl at Indiana baseball game is illegal immigrant who was deported in 2018

A previously deported illegal immigrant has been arrested in Indiana in connection with the stabbing of a 14-year-old girl who was watching her brother’s baseball game on Saturday.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 26-year-old Dimas Gabriel Yanez, who was captured while running through a cornfield on Sunday. The attack occurred a day earlier, and the girl is currently recovering from her injuries.

According to authorities, Yanez had been on the run after allegedly stabbing the girl in the hand at a baseball game in unincorporated Lowell, Indiana, on Saturday, August 31st. The incident took place around 3:45 p.m. local time at the baseball fields near 17401 Morse Street in Lowell. Police reported that the 14-year-old girl was watching her brother’s game when she was attacked.

The girl’s mother attempted to intervene, and the suspect tried to stab her as well. Following his arrest, the Sheriff’s Department stated, “It’s believed he was in the process of cutting his hair to change his appearance just before he was arrested.” They also revealed that Yanez had been deported to Honduras in 2018 and may have been involved in criminal activity across the United States since his illegal return. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has been notified of his arrest.

A baseball coach who witnessed the stabbing described how the suspect jumped on the girl, pushed her over, and then pulled out a knife, “started swinging it on her,” resulting in her being stabbed in the hand.
