If ‘democracy dies in darkness’ maybe WaPo should take an interest in the palace intrigue going on under their noses in their own preferred party.
At a moment where the GOP could not possibly be more unified than they are this moment, the party across the aisle is in complete disarray. It’s not often that panic and survival instincts kick in to overwhelm the strict party discipline demanded by… whoever is that controls the donor money.
But after Biden got his backside handed to him by Trump in the debates, it has been Code Red in the Blue Team. And it’s getting to the point that it’s becoming they/them for zerself.
Senator Schumer got in a car and met Biden in Delaware. One-on-one. Face to face where there are no staffers and no visitor logs. The first direct meeting they’ve had since the debate. This came just a day or two after saying he was open to replacing Joe Biden.
It’s being said that Schumer tried to talk him into stepping down voluntarily. Joe Biden was having NONE of it. Speaking of the meeting afterward, Axios reported:
“I sat with President Biden this afternoon in Delaware; we had a good meeting,” Schumer said in a statement.
That statement was noticeably cooler than his previous insistence that “I’m for Joe.”
If that’s an example of the efforts to dump Biden, this is an example of the other side of the coin.
Democrats are trying to rewrite their own party’s Primary rules to ‘lock in’ the Joe vote before delegates still concerned about Joe’s ability to perform his official responsibilities have an opportunity to get skittish.
They don’t want to give the Convention an opportunity to devolve into the political cage match challenging his fitness and running what amounts to a Mini-Primary in which Joe would be swapped out with another short-list contender. They want the Convention to be little more than a formality… a coronation, if you will.
That would square nicely with the dirty dealings the Dem Primary process saw from Day One, where the rules were changed again and again to favor the incumbent and absolutely destroy any challenger’s chances.
Even a KENNEDY was shut out of contention… not for lack of support, but because the party decided they didn’t want the in-house competition. Just like the backroom dealing that trimmed the field and launched Biden into real contention against Bernie Sanders, or the one before that, where SuperDelegates delivered a win to Hillary… much to the chagrin of the party’s many Bernie Bros.
Here’s how the Convention story is being described in the (usually) Dem-friendly Axios:
The ‘virtual role call’ was first designed as a work-around to help them comply with the Ohio deadline that technically falls BEFORE their convention date. Ohio has changed their rules, so that is no longer a problem they need to solve.
But with this tool now in place, Dems are already looking for ways to use it for political advantage… specifically BIDEN’s political advantage.
Their own party members are calling ‘BS’ on this plan.
If these people are so bloody power-hungry that they can’t abide by the democratic rules of their OWN party… what makes anyone seriously believe they can be trusted to abide by the rules in the General Election?
Let’s remind them of this the next time they try to wrap themselves in the flag and claim they are ‘saving democracy’… Dems don’t need to take our word for it, their own PARTY MEMBERS stand as their accusers.
