Former NFL defensive end Allen Bailey, who spent 10 seasons playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons, has died unexpectedly at the age of 37.
Bailey was discovered dead inside his Florida home Tuesday, October 20, after his wife found him, according to TMZ.
His brother, Alford Bailey Jr., confirmed the news, explaining that the family believes the former football player died of natural causes.
However, an official cause of death has not been determined, and authorities have not publicly disclosed additional circumstances surrounding his passing.
The sudden death comes just five years after Bailey’s professional football career ended, cutting short the life of a former University of Miami standout who became a familiar presence on NFL defensive lines.
Bailey spent most of his professional career with the Kansas City Chiefs, who selected him in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
The defensive end joined Kansas City following a successful college career with the Miami Hurricanes, where his combination of strength and athleticism attracted attention from professional scouts.
He quickly established himself as a dependable member of the Chiefs’ defense, contributing as both a pass rusher and run defender.
Bailey remained with Kansas City for eight seasons, playing an important role along the defensive line as the franchise developed into a consistent playoff contender.
His strongest statistical season came in 2018, when he recorded six sacks during his final year with the organization.
Following his departure from Kansas City, Bailey signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019.
He spent two seasons with the Falcons, appearing in 31 games before the team released him in 2021.
Across his decade-long NFL career, Bailey appeared in 133 regular-season games, recording 248 combined tackles and 22 sacks.
His career demonstrated the physical durability required to compete in one of professional football’s most demanding positions.
Although he never achieved the national recognition of some of the league’s most prominent defensive players, Bailey built a lengthy career through consistent performances and his ability to compete against opposing offensive linemen.
Before his success in professional football, Bailey developed his athletic abilities in his native Georgia.
He was born March 25, 1989, on Sapelo Island, a coastal community known for its distinctive history and close-knit population.
Bailey attended McIntosh County Academy, where his football talent helped him earn an opportunity to compete at the collegiate level.
He subsequently enrolled at the University of Miami, becoming a member of the Hurricanes’ football program.
During his time at Miami, Bailey developed into a professional prospect, eventually earning his opportunity to join the NFL through the 2011 draft.
His selection by Kansas City marked the beginning of a career that would take him from South Florida to Missouri and eventually Atlanta.
After his release from the Falcons in 2021, Bailey stepped away from professional football.
His death has now brought renewed attention to the achievements of a player who spent a decade competing at the sport’s highest level, per Trending Politics.
According to his brother, the family believes natural causes were responsible for his passing.
Nevertheless, that assessment has not been confirmed by an official medical examination.
No specific illness or underlying medical condition has been publicly identified.
Additional information about funeral arrangements and memorial services has also not been announced.
Bailey leaves behind a professional legacy that includes 10 NFL seasons, more than 130 regular-season appearances and contributions to two major franchises.
His unexpected passing at 37 marks the loss of a former defensive standout whose career began at the University of Miami and continued for a decade in the National Football League.
