President Donald Trump’s top Republican critic in Congress is facing explosive allegations from a woman claiming she briefly dated him following the death of his wife, just days before a closely watched GOP primary in Kentucky.
Thomas Massie, one of Trump’s most outspoken Republican opponents on Capitol Hill, was accused by Cynthia West of maintaining a “burner phone” and having an alleged relationship with fellow Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO).
West made the claims during an interview published Monday by conservative activist Laura Loomer ahead of Tuesday’s Republican primary between Massie and Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein.
According to West, Massie allegedly referred to the device as a “boner phone” and claimed he had an “intimate relationship” with Boebert because she was the “hottest woman in Congress.”
Neither Massie nor Boebert publicly addressed the allegations Monday night, and both congressional offices did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail.
The accusations surfaced days after Boebert traveled to Kentucky to campaign for Massie during the heated Republican primary battle.
Trump responded angrily to Boebert’s support for Massie in a Truth Social post over the weekend, referring to the Colorado Republican as “Weak Minded Lauren Boebert” and accusing her of betraying the MAGA movement.
Boebert later responded on X, writing that she was “not mad or offended” by Trump’s criticism.
West, a former Capitol Hill staffer now running for a school board position in Florida, said she began a relationship with Massie after he contacted her on X in August 2024, shortly after the death of his wife, Rhonda Massie.
In a separate interview with conservative attorney Marcus Carey, West claimed the relationship intensified quickly and alleged Massie encouraged her to move to Washington.
She also alleged Massie later helped her obtain employment in the office of Victoria Spartz, one of his congressional allies.
Congressional staffing records reviewed by the Daily Mail showed West worked in Spartz’s office for approximately three months between late 2024 and early 2025.
West additionally accused Massie last week of attempting to offer her $5,000 in hush money related to their alleged relationship. Massie has denied that allegation.
Spartz’s office also denied involvement in any settlement discussions and said the congresswoman only became aware of the accusations after West publicly discussed them, per the Daily Mail.
Massie previously responded to the controversy by stating no ethics complaints have ever been filed against him during his 14 years in Congress.
“I have consulted legal counsel, and we are considering all options,” Massie said in a prior statement.
The controversy comes as Massie fights to hold off Gallrein in what has become one of the most closely watched Republican primaries of the cycle.
Recent polling cited in the report showed Gallrein leading Massie 52% to 44% among likely Republican primary voters.
