‘Buc-ee’s’ Faces Crisis After Devastating Blow

America’s most beloved highway pit stop has earned the lowest possible mark from the nation’s foremost consumer watchdog organization.

The Better Business Bureau handed Buc-ee’s an “F” rating — the worst grade in its A+ to F scale — citing the Texas-based convenience chain’s complete failure to address nearly 90 formal complaints lodged against it.

The BBB’s grading system weighs a company’s engagement with and resolution of customer grievances.

Customer reviews themselves carry no weight in the final score, but a company’s direct responsiveness to filed complaints does.

Buc-ee’s is not a BBB-accredited business.

The BBB’s own website lists the primary driver of the failing grade as the company’s refusal to respond to 88 complaints on file.

Customers filing those complaints pointed to a recurring set of issues: inflated prices, defective or substandard products, rude or dismissive store employees and rigid no-return policies that left buyers with no recourse.

One shopper, writing to the BBB on February 4, described a deeply unsatisfying food purchase.

“Bought the chicken, bacon, avocado ranch wrap, it was so disgusting that I had to throw it out the window,” the complaint states.

“There was no bacon, or ranch, and only a few pieces of chicken… [asked] my husband if he wanted some and he tried it too, and said it was the worst thing he’s ever ate. It tasted like the most flavorless mush, and on top of it it was $9.49.”

Another customer submitted a complaint in January over a lost or stolen gift card and described hitting a wall when trying to reach the company.

“Buc-cee’s has TERRIBLE customer service,” the complaint reads.

“They have no phone number for you to call, only email. I have filled out their form with all of the information multiple times and have yet to hear back from them. I just want my gift card that I paid for and want them to treat their customers better.”

Numerous reviews on the BBB website note that the chain’s phone numbers either do not work or are unavailable, and that submitting inquiries through the website produces no results.

The low rating has done nothing to slow the company’s aggressive growth strategy.

Buc-ee’s currently operates 54 locations spread across 11 states and has announced plans to push into Ohio, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

The chain’s stores are massive in scale, with each location averaging 120 fuel pumps and accommodating between 700 and 1,000 parked vehicles at a time.

The footprints of these locations stretch tens of thousands of square feet.

Signature menu and snack items — including Beaver Nuggets and freshly sliced brisket — have developed loyal followings among American road trippers and have become synonymous with long-haul travel across the South and beyond.

Despite the BBB’s verdict, Buc-ee’s ranks fifth in the 2025 American Customer Satisfaction Index for the convenience store category, outperforming major fuel brands including Shell and ExxonMobil.

In late 2025, the chain claimed the top spot in dunnhumby’s rankings for quick-service restaurants, surpassing In-N-Out and Chick-fil-A in customer preference scores.

The company also maintains a reputation for competitive employee compensation.

Hiring signs posted at store entrances advertise starting wages between $16 and $20 per hour, while full-time store managers can earn between $100,000 and $225,000 annually.

Full-time employees receive 401(k) retirement plans with 100% company matching contributions, along with three weeks of paid time off each year.

The BBB itself acknowledges that its ratings represent the organization’s opinion of how a business is likely to interact with customers, and does not constitute a final judgment on the business overall.
