Sheriff Utters Two Troublesome Words After Teen Vanishes on Christmas Eve Walk

A 19-year-old San Antonio woman who disappeared from her home in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve has sparked an urgent search that now involves multiple federal agencies, with authorities expressing grave concern for her safety.

Camila “Cami” Mendoza Olmos was last seen outside her residence just before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 25, wearing only pajama shorts and a hoodie.

The circumstances surrounding her disappearance have prompted investigators to expand their search beyond American soil.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar revealed that law enforcement officials have maintained continuous search operations since the teen went missing.

Deputies and volunteers have been working tirelessly to locate Olmos, according to reports from CBS News.

The sheriff made a notable statement regarding the scope of the investigation, indicating that authorities are prepared to extend their efforts internationally.

Salazar emphasized the thoroughness of the search, stating that investigators want to ensure no potential lead goes unexplored.

Security camera footage captured outside the family home shows Olmos searching through her vehicle before the recording ended.

This video represents the last confirmed sighting of the missing woman.

Investigators determined that Olmos never returned to her residence after the early morning departure.

Her car remained at the home, leading authorities to conclude she left the area on foot.

The only items believed to be in her possession are her car keys and potentially her driver’s license.

The investigation has pursued multiple theories regarding the disappearance.

Authorities have not ruled out kidnapping or human trafficking as possible explanations, though they continue to examine whether Olmos may have left voluntarily.

Sheriff Salazar addressed recent events in the teen’s personal life, noting she had experienced a breakup shortly before her disappearance. However, he characterized the separation as mutual and stated that investigators have not identified anything suspicious in connection with it.

Individuals close to Olmos have provided full cooperation with law enforcement.

The sheriff also addressed speculation about immigration enforcement involvement, confirming that Olmos holds U.S. citizenship and has not been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Salazar explained that he personally requested verification that the missing woman was not being held in any federal detention facility.

Olmos’ mother, Rosario, discovered her daughter missing when she woke Wednesday morning.

The teen typically took walks in the early hours, so her absence did not immediately alarm her mother.

By 9:30 a.m., growing concern prompted Rosario to attempt contact with her daughter.

She discovered Olmos’ cellular phone on a bed inside the home with a depleted battery.

Sheriff Salazar characterized the abandonment of the phone as highly irregular behavior for the missing woman.

He noted that Olmos maintained an active lifestyle, making it unusual for her to leave without her device and fail to return home.

The sheriff confirmed that investigators harbor serious concerns about the teen’s well-being, though he declined to elaborate on specific details that led to these fears.

Law enforcement has classified her situation as potentially involving “imminent danger,” per CBS.

Federal resources have been deployed to assist the local investigation.

Both the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security have joined the search effort, providing support by monitoring border crossings and tracking international travel records.

Camila Estrella, who has known Olmos since childhood, spoke with her friend by phone on Tuesday.

The two discussed plans to shop for a dress for an upcoming family event.

Estrella recalled their final exchange, in which Olmos said, “Bye Cami, I love you.”

Estrella described her friend as someone characterized by love and warmth, the New York Post reported over the weekend.

She expressed shock at the sudden disappearance, stating that no one anticipated such an occurrence.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office has requested public assistance in locating Olmos.
