Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) is facing allegations of physical abuse from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Bernie Moreno, according to court filings and reports published this week.
The allegations surfaced as Moreno seeks changes to the former couple’s custody arrangement involving their two-year-old daughter following claims of repeated physical confrontations during the marriage.
According to reports, Moreno accused Miller of “dangerous physical behavior” in the presence of their child while requesting modifications to the custody agreement reached after the couple’s divorce.
The most recent alleged incident reportedly occurred Feb. 1 during a custody exchange at Miller’s Ohio home when Moreno claimed the congressman grabbed and struck her in front of their daughter.
Court filings and photographs reviewed by the Daily Mail allegedly showed bruising on Moreno’s arm, elbow and torso following the confrontation at the residence.
The Bay Village Police Department confirmed officers responded to a report of child abuse connected to the incident and said the investigation remains open.
An earlier alleged incident reportedly occurred June 9, 2024, when Miller allegedly threw a pot of boiling water during an argument inside the couple’s Ohio home while their infant daughter was nearby.
Sources cited in the report claimed some of the hot water struck Moreno’s chest during the altercation. Moreno reportedly documented injuries with photographs taken after the incident.
The couple married at President Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf club in August 2022 with Trump attending the ceremony before Miller later filed for divorce two years afterward.
Miller and Moreno finalized a divorce settlement in June 2025 that included joint custody of their daughter and child support payments totaling $2,500 per month.
According to reports, a handwritten letter allegedly written by Miller after the boiling water incident included repeated apologies and statements expressing guilt, though the letter reportedly did not explicitly admit physical abuse.
“I’m sorry I failed you and Ruth,” Miller allegedly wrote in the letter reviewed by reporters while discussing the breakdown of the relationship and family situation.
Moreno’s attorney told the Daily Mail that photographic evidence and court records supported her allegations and contradicted years of denials involving claims of abuse and violent behavior.
Miller’s attorney, Adam Brown, denied all allegations against the congressman and described the accusations as false. Brown reportedly said evidence rebutting the claims would be provided.
Miller has previously faced allegations of physical assault from former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham involving incidents that allegedly occurred during their past relationship.
President Donald Trump recently endorsed Miller in his Republican primary race, describing the Ohio congressman as “a fantastic Champion” for voters in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District.
