What Ilhan Omar is NOW Being Investigated for Raises Even MORE Eyebrows

Twelve months separate two numbers at the center of a new federal inquiry into a sitting member of Congress: roughly $51,000 and roughly $30 million.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro told Fox News on Tuesday that her office has opened an investigation into the financial disclosures of Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Minnesota Democrat.

Pirro’s prosecutors have trained their attention on Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett.

His businesses carried a combined value of about $51,000 in 2023. By 2024, those same businesses stood at about $30 million.

Pirro disclosed the inquiry shortly after federal agents raided Omar’s home.

Authorities said the raid belongs to a larger, ongoing case in which investigators have scrutinized Omar’s immigration records.

Omar has denied any wrongdoing in the matter.

The dollar figures trace to the congresswoman’s latest financial disclosure, which AM Update reported lists Mynett’s net worth between $6 million and $30 million.

AM Update covered the disclosure in September.

Most of that value comes from his stake in Rose Lake Capital, a venture capital firm valued between $5 million and $25 million, the report said.

A California winery stake adds another $1 million to $5 million. According to the report, both ventures were nearly worthless in 2023.

The New York Post reported that attorneys for the House Oversight Committee opened their own review into how the couple’s finances grew.

Committee Chairman James Comer, a Kentucky Republican, told the Post his attorneys are weighing a subpoena for Mynett. The Post reported that Mynett’s consulting firm has done business with Democratic-aligned organizations.

The Post also reported that the FBI received a briefing during the Biden administration on concerns about a network of companies tied to Mynett.

Comer said the committee is examining the matter. He pointed to reports that the couple’s net worth moved from near zero to a range of $6 million to $30 million within a year.

Rose Lake Capital is the second private firm Mynett launched with business partner Hailer, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

Their first, eSt Ventures, drew a lawsuit from two South Dakota cannabis companies.

The plaintiffs alleged the partners diverted $1.7 million of a $3.5 million investment to purposes other than those stated.

Montana Democrat Max Baucus once appeared on the firm’s website as an adviser, the Post reported.

Baucus told the newspaper he had one phone call with Mynett’s business partner about a potential deal in 2022.

Mynett previously worked as a consultant on Omar’s campaign. The two married in 2020, the Free Beacon reported.

The outlet said $2.9 million from Omar’s campaign flowed to his company, E Street Group.

Omar and Mynett have appeared together at events hosted by the EBII Group, a company that helps facilitate international investments in Africa, the Free Beacon reported.

President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that the Justice Department and Congress are looking at Omar’s finances, and that she is reportedly worth more than $44 million.

Omar responded in a post of her own. She wrote, “Years of ‘investigations’ have found nothing.”

Trump separately called for an investigation of Omar in a Thursday post, according to Fox News.

He wrote that she is worth over $30 million and should be investigated for “Financial and Political Crimes.”

The Free Beacon reported that Omar continues to deny she is worth millions of dollars, even after filing a disclosure reporting her family’s holdings at upward of $30 million.

Federal authorities in Minnesota have spent years working through some of the largest alleged public-funds fraud schemes in the country.

Omar has not been accused of wrongdoing in those cases.

Pirro has not announced charges against Omar or Mynett, and the reporting does not describe any.

Omar, a Somalia-born Democrat, represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House.

Reports do not say how long Pirro’s investigation will last or what investigators plan to do next.
