U.S Capitol police respond to a suspicious vehicle outside Capitol — roads shut down

Could the U.S. Capitol be at risk of a terror attack? Authorities are investigating a suspicious vehicle parked near Constitution Avenue and Third Street, NW, just outside the Capitol.

The U.S. Capitol Police announced the situation in a statement, urging the public to steer clear of the area. “Our officers just responded to the area of Constitution Avenue and Third Street, NW, for a suspicious vehicle. Please avoid the area while we investigate,” read a tweet from the official U.S. Capitol Police account.

Police Activity Intensifies

The area has been cordoned off as law enforcement investigates. Live reports and footage from NBC Washington show a heavy police presence, with multiple vehicles and flashing lights dominating the scene. Walkways near the Capitol have also been shut down as a precaution.

Erratic Driving Triggers Alarm

Capitol Police confirmed to reporters that the investigation began after an individual drove a vehicle erratically, including onto the sidewalk near the Capitol grounds. In response, authorities initiated a security lockdown of the surrounding area.
