Trump Suffers Brutal Defeat

President Donald Trump has been embroiled in controversy since taking office in January.

The president faced staggering criticism over his war with longtime allies Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY). He was also criticized for delaying the release of the infamous Epstein files – a promise he made on the 2024 campaign trail.

On Nov. 4, statewide elections were held across the country, with Democrats securing massive victories across the board.

In New York, most notably, voters elected socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani as the next mayor of the Big Apple.

Many wondered why Democrats were able to score such pronounced victories, given Trump’s decisive victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

It seems one reason was the lack of support from Trump’s own base.

Trump successfully won the young vote in 2024, arguably a key reason for his presidential victory. A year later, it appears that such support is slipping away from the president.

In 2024, Trump beat Harris among young voters, 49-48%, according to the Daily Mail. The president’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, alongside other influencers, and his attendance at sports events gained him favor with young Americans.

The MAGA base didn’t show up with the same enthusiasm they did a year prior at the start of the month.

In Virginia, Democrat Abigail Spanberger was elected governor after winning the young men’s vote by 17 points.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill also cruised to victory in New Jersey, beating her opponent by 14 points among young voters.

Mamdani obliterated the opposition, including former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa, by obtaining 67% support from males under 30.

According to the Daily Mail, young voters began to turn away from the president as soon as he was sworn into office.

The outlet said the so-called “honeymoon” period between Trump and his once-loyal base appears to have ended, and that the economy is currently suffering.

Trump currently holds a 31% favorable rating among independent young voters. For context, such a percentage stood at 50 in February.

SocialSphere pollster John Della Volpe interviewed independent young men and asked them if Trump had made their lives better. Several answers weren’t pretty for the president, needless to say.

27-year-old dental student Matthew told Della Volpe that he had voted for Trump in 2024, but refused to vote for Cuomo in the New York City mayoral election even though the president endorsed him.

Instead, Matthew felt that Mamdani was the better choice.

“I think [Mamdani] is a better choice than people that are over 50 years old, 60 years old, where the last time they had to look for a job was when you’re looking at a newspaper circling ads,” the 27-year-old student said.

Della Volpe argued that young men were disappointed with Trump because they saw their rent costs skyrocket – the one issue they did not want to face again after the 2024 election.

“For young men watching their rent climb while Trump governed like every other president they’d learned to distrust, that was enough to give Democrats another look,” the pollster told the Daily Mail.
