President Donald Trump, who once threatened to arrest socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani if he impedes ICE operations in New York City, appears to have grown quite fond of the man he called a “communist” just months ago.
Trump and Mamdani met in the Oval Office last week, and both seemed to praise each other far more than anyone thought.
In a massive shock to MAGA, the president even appeared to tell Mamdani to express his belief that the commander-in-chief is a “fascist.”
A reporter asked Mamdani during the Oval Office meeting if he still believed that Trump was a dictator.
“Are you affirming you think President Trump is a fascist?” the reporter asked the mayor-elect.
“I’ve…” Mamdani said, before Trump jumped in.
“That’s okay. You can just say yes. It’s easier than explaining it, I don’t mind,” the president said.
Trump even said he believed Mamdani would do a “good job” as mayor of the nation’s busiest city.
“He’s got views that are a little out there, but who knows. We’re going to see what works.” Trump said. “He’s going to surprise some conservative people, actually.”
Trump’s complimentary actions toward Mamdani didn’t stop there, however.
The president announced that he would not send the National Guard to crime-ridden New York City. He has sent troops to Democrat-run cities, such as Los Angeles and Chicago.
When asked about his decision to delay deployment, Trump said he would only send troops when the time comes, as the Daily Mail reported.
“If they need it. Right now, other places need it more, but if they need it,” Trump said.
The president praised his meeting with Mamdani after announcing the decision.
“We had a very good meeting yesterday. We talked about that, but if they need it, I would do it,” he said.
Trump’s praise of Mamdani comes as the socialist Democrat continues to maintain his belief that the president is a “fascist.”
In an interview with NBC News host Kristen Welker, Mamdani clarified his comments about the president.
Welker asked the New York City mayor-elect if he still believes that the president is a fascist.
“That’s something that I’ve said in the past. I say it today,” Mamdani said in response.
“You’ve called him a despot. Do you still believe President Trump is a threat to the democracy?” Welker pressed.
“Everything that I’ve said in the past, I continue to believe,” Mamdani replied.
Welker then asked Mamdani how he could work with an individual whom he believes threatens democracy.
“I think working for the people of New York City demands that you work with everyone and anyone—and that you always look to find those areas of agreement while not overlooking the places of disagreement,” he said.
