Trump Gift Awards Millions

The Trump administration is highlighting new tax data showing widespread use of its signature deductions on tips and overtime pay.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said nearly 30 million Americans have already taken advantage of the policies, which were included in President Donald Trump’s major tax package.

The deductions, commonly referred to as “No Tax on Tips” and “No Tax on Overtime,” were part of the administration’s broader economic legislation aimed at boosting take-home pay.

Speaking at an event with small business owners in New York, Bessent provided updated figures on how many taxpayers are using the benefits.

According to the Treasury Department, 5.7 million Americans have claimed the deduction on tips.

An additional 23 million have claimed the overtime deduction, making it the more widely used of the two policies.

Combined, that brings total participation to nearly 30 million taxpayers.

The numbers represent an increase from previous estimates, which placed usage at around 24.6 million.

The updated figures come just days before the April 15 tax filing deadline.

Bessent described the overtime provision as “the biggest one,” pointing to its broad impact across industries.

The policies are part of Trump’s larger tax reform effort, which also includes reductions on vehicle loan interest and expanded deductions for businesses and seniors.

Administration officials say the changes are designed to encourage work and increase disposable income.

Business owners and workers at the event said they are already seeing results.

Raj Aman, who runs a bar in New York, said the tip deduction has made it easier to hire employees, per the New York Post.

“Three years ago, I couldn’t get any servers or bartenders,” he said. “This year, we’ve already interviewed over 85 people.”

He credited the policy with drawing more workers into the job market.

“Everybody wants their tips not being taxed,” Aman added, saying employees are earning more than before.

Workers also reported immediate financial benefits.

Claire Kerrigan, a bartender, said the extra income has reduced financial pressure.

“It’s really, truly a big help,” she said, noting she no longer has to set aside as much money for taxes.

Local officials from both parties also voiced support.

Brendel Logan-Charles, a Democrat, said the policy should prompt her party to reconsider its economic approach.

“Thank you… this is a great day for us,” she said during the event.

Supporters argue the tax cuts will have a broader economic impact.

They say increased take-home pay will lead to more consumer spending and business growth.

Some officials predict the effects will become more visible over time as more workers and businesses take advantage of the deductions.

Bessent also pointed to additional elements of the administration’s economic agenda.

He highlighted new investment accounts for children, which will be funded at birth and grow over time.

The administration says those accounts are designed to support long-term financial stability for future generations.

For now, officials are focusing on the immediate impact.

With millions already using the deductions, the administration is positioning the tax changes as a key part of its economic message moving forward.
