Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and chart-topping singer Katy Perry have confirmed they are dating, ending months of public curiosity about their relationship status.
The couple made their romance Instagram-official on Saturday when Perry shared photos and video from Tokyo during a stop on her concert tour.
The post featured an intimate selfie of the pair alongside footage of them enjoying sushi together at a conveyor-belt restaurant in the Japanese capital.
“Tokyo times on tour and more. All the love to you!” Perry wrote in the caption accompanying the images.
Neither Trudeau nor Perry has issued additional statements about their relationship beyond the social media announcement.
The first hints of a potential romance surfaced in late July 2025.
Photographers captured the two sharing a private dinner at Le Violon, an upscale restaurant located in Montreal’s historic Old Montreal district.
Additional public appearances followed throughout the summer and fall.
Trudeau was spotted attending Perry’s Lifetimes Tour performance in Toronto during August.
In early November, both were seen together at a charity event in Paris, further fueling speculation about the nature of their connection.
Saturday’s social media post marked the first time either party publicly acknowledged their relationship. Both individuals have experienced high-profile relationships and marriages that ultimately ended in separation.
Perry’s romantic history includes a brief marriage to British comedian Russell Brand. The couple wed in October 2010 but divorced in July 2012 after just 14 months together.
She later entered into a relationship with actor Orlando Bloom, which began in January 2016. The couple announced their engagement in February 2019.
Perry and Bloom welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020.
Despite their engagement and shared parenthood, the relationship experienced multiple separations and reconciliations before ending permanently in June of this year.
Trudeau married Sophie Grégoire in 2005. Grégoire worked as a Canadian television host and yoga instructor.
The couple raised three children during their marriage: Xavier, born in 2007, Ella-Grace, born in 2009, and Hadrien, born in 2014.
On August 2, 2023, Trudeau and Grégoire publicly announced their separation after 18 years of marriage. They stated their intention to continue co-parenting their three children.
The legal dissolution of their marriage was completed in early 2025.
Trudeau departed from political office in March after serving nearly ten years as Canada’s prime minister.
Perry made headlines this summer for sharing inflammatory statements about illegal immigration on her social media platforms.
She shared content suggesting that current immigration enforcement efforts amount to persecution of people in their rightful homeland.
In April, fast food giant Wendy’s sparked controversy after taking aim at Perry following her suborbital space journey.
The restaurant chain’s social media team launched a series of pointed remarks about the singer after her Blue Origin flight.
