Sydney Sweeney ignited social media Tuesday night following an unexpected appearance during Fox’s pregame coverage of the World Series.
The Hollywood actress surprised millions of viewers across America when she delivered the Game 4 introduction moments before the first pitch.
Sweeney appeared wearing a red dress and sporting a Marilyn Monroe-inspired blonde bob as she attempted to energize audiences ahead of the matchup.
Her performance drew immediate and polarized reactions from viewers watching the broadcast.
One social media user questioned the decision, writing, “Why is Sydney Sweeney narrating my pregame hype video?” Another simply commented, “Bad vibes.”
Additional criticism came from another viewer who stated, “The only thing more wooden than Sydney Sweeney’s delivery of that World Series hype spot is an actual baseball bat.”
A fourth commenter demanded, “Take Sydney Sweeney off my screen for the World Series.”
Some observers anticipated the negative response before it materialized.
“Every liberal watching the World Series just lost their s*** when Sydney Sweeney showed up. Gotta love it,” one person wrote.
Another predicted, “Get ready for the liberal meltdown. Should be good for a laugh.”
During the segment, Sweeney spoke in the distinctive soft tone that has become her trademark in recent years.
“Given the setting,” she began as cameras revealed her in the red dress, “it would be appropriate to dust the story with movie magic, right? Why not romanticize a bit?”
The camera pulled back to show her full-length as she walked onto the set while continuing her narration.
“Winning… real winning, isn’t polished,” she continued. “It’s earned. It’s everything you can’t fake. It’s beautiful on its own.”
She concluded by saying, “Let’s just save the Hollywood for the ending. Welcome to Game 4 of the World Series on Fox.”
The actress has maintained a prominent media presence throughout the year, particularly after generating controversy with an American Eagle advertising campaign in July.
The commercial for jeans featured wordplay between “good jeans” and “good genes” that drew significant backlash from critics.
In the advertisement, Sweeney stated, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color. My jeans are blue.”
Resist the Mainstream previously reported that critics took issue with the genetic references combined with Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes, with some comparing the campaign to extremist messaging.
Columbia University lecturer Sayantani DasGupta claimed the campaign was “really imbued with eugenic messaging” and argued the pun could not be divorced from historical narratives about racial and genetic superiority.
Defenders of the campaign pushed back against what they characterized as overreaction and dismissed the controversy.
Sweeney’s World Series appearance coincides with promotional efforts for her upcoming film about boxer Christie Martin.
The movie, scheduled for release on Nov. 7, chronicles Martin’s boxing career and personal challenges.
The biographical film culminates with dramatic events in which Martin was stabbed, shot and left for dead by her husband.
