Swalwell Caught Red-Handed

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is facing a new wave of allegations, this time tied to claims he violated immigration and campaign finance laws involving a family nanny.

The accusations come as Swalwell is already under intense scrutiny following multiple sexual misconduct claims that have shaken his gubernatorial campaign.

According to newly filed complaints, Swalwell allegedly continued employing a Brazilian national, Amanda Barbosa, after her legal work authorization expired.

Barbosa was initially authorized to work as a nanny for the Swalwell family from January 2021 through December 2022.

The complaint alleges that despite the expiration of her visa, she remained employed by Swalwell from early 2023 through early 2025.

That claim raises potential violations of federal immigration and employment laws.

The situation is further complicated by financial records.

Federal Election Commission filings show Barbosa received $46,930 in campaign funds in 2022, listed as childcare-related expenses.

Additional records indicate that even after her authorization expired, payments tied to childcare continued in different forms.

Between 2023 and 2024, Swalwell reported nearly $10,000 in payroll tax reimbursements connected to campaign childcare expenses.

By 2025, Barbosa reportedly received another $38,905 in campaign-related payments after her immigration status had been adjusted.

The complaint argues that these payments may constitute improper use of campaign funds and could violate labor laws if the employment was unauthorized.

Photos included in the complaint allegedly show Barbosa continuing to spend time with the Swalwell family, including visits to the White House, during the period in question.

The allegations were submitted to both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor for review.

Swalwell has not publicly responded in detail to the nanny-related claims.

The controversy comes at a critical moment.

Swalwell is currently running for governor of California and had been considered a leading contender in the race, per the Daily Mail.

However, his campaign has been rocked by multiple allegations in recent days.

A former staffer has accused him of sexual assault, claiming he engaged in non-consensual activity after a night of drinking in 2024.

Three other women have also come forward with claims of misconduct, including allegations of inappropriate messages and behavior.

Swalwell has denied all accusations.

“These allegations are flat false… they did not happen,” he said in a public statement addressing the claims.

He has also suggested the timing of the allegations is politically motivated, noting they surfaced just weeks before a key primary election.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has confirmed it is reviewing aspects of the allegations tied to the misconduct claims.

The addition of potential immigration and financial violations adds further pressure.

Legal experts note that combining personal misconduct allegations with campaign finance issues can significantly increase political risk.

Swalwell’s campaign now faces multiple simultaneous challenges.

With investigations potentially expanding and party leaders already calling for him to step aside, the situation threatens to derail his gubernatorial bid.
