RIP: Iconic Actor Passes Away

C.W. Morgan, the actor remembered by horror fans for playing Hank Loomis in the original “Scream,” has died at 72.

Morgan died Aug. 30 in Los Angeles County, according to medical examiner records obtained by TMZ.

His death was publicly reported Thursday, more than a month after he passed away.

An official cause of death has not yet been released.

Records reportedly indicate Morgan died inside a bathroom.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a death investigation and that the circumstances appeared consistent with natural causes.

The Los Angeles Fire Department also confirmed receiving a call involving an unconscious adult male.

Morgan was already dead when emergency crews arrived.

His body was not taken to a hospital because the case was turned over to the coroner.

Morgan’s daughter, Renata Macfie, confirmed his death in an emotional Facebook post on Aug. 30.

She shared an old photo of her father and wrote about the everyday routines and memories she would miss most.

“I’m never going to have the right words for this post,” she wrote.

“Loosing you has left the biggest hole in my heart. I miss you endlessly already.”

Macfie said she planned to continue the drives and coffee outings the two shared together.

“I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings,” she wrote.

She also remembered Morgan’s humor, joking that she inherited his badly timed jokes.

“Life will never be the same without you and your poorly timed jokes that I inherited from you,” she wrote.

For movie fans, Morgan is best known for his role in Wes Craven’s 1996 horror hit “Scream.”

He played Hank Loomis, the father of Billy Loomis, portrayed by Skeet Ulrich.

Billy was eventually revealed as one of the killers behind the Ghostface murders, making Hank part of the complicated family history at the center of the film.

Morgan’s character also had a connection to Sidney Prescott’s family.

Hank had an affair with Maureen Prescott, Sidney’s mother, helping set in motion some of the events that fueled the film’s deadly storyline.

Morgan appeared in one memorable police-station scene in which Hank defended his son as authorities questioned Billy about the murders, per Trending Politics.

His screen time was relatively limited, but his character remained tied to one of the franchise’s biggest twists.

Morgan later returned briefly in 2000’s “Scream 3.”

His appearance came through a flashback that revisited the dark history surrounding the original murders.

Outside the “Scream” franchise, Morgan also appeared in television productions, including “Nash Bridges.”

His death comes during the 30th anniversary year of the original “Scream.”

The movie became one of the defining horror films of the 1990s and helped revive the slasher genre while launching a franchise that remained popular for decades.

Morgan will be remembered by horror fans as part of the cast that helped establish that legacy.

For his family, however, the loss is far more personal.

Macfie’s tribute focused not on Hollywood, but on the drives, coffee trips and jokes she shared with her father.

“I’m grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy,” she wrote. “Rest easy bubby.”
