Red State Woman Arrested After Mind-Boggling Courthouse Incident

A tense incident unfolded Wednesday at the Oklahoma County Courthouse when deputies from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office arrested a woman who allegedly attempted to kidnap a two-year-old from her mother.

Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Tatiyana French, who reportedly claimed the toddler was her own.

The situation drew immediate attention due to its unusual setting and the speed with which law enforcement intervened.

Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Aaron Brilbeck said deputies responded in under a minute after the mother raised the alarm.

“We showed up less than a minute later. We were able to identify who the woman is… and we took her into custody,” he said.

Body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office captures the chaotic scene.

The video, which was posted by News 9, shows the mother confronting French while bystanders assisted in securing the child, with the toddler’s cries audible as officers spoke to the suspect.

Brilbeck commended the mother’s vigilance, noting her actions likely prevented a worse outcome.

“We’re just glad that this mother had a good eye on her child. She made a lot of noise very quickly. She was a good, solid, alert mom. As a result, her child is just fine,” he said.

Officials described the episode as highly unusual.

“It was kind of strange because she seemed to be under the impression that the child was her child,” Brilbeck explained, noting prior contact with French.

No injuries occurred, and the child was safely returned to her mother, KFOR reports.

French was booked on a kidnapping complaint. Authorities emphasized she is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and no additional charges or motives have been disclosed.

The investigation remains active, and officials are seeking further information from witnesses.

Experts note that incidents like this highlight potential vulnerabilities in public spaces and the importance of situational awareness.

Courthouse safety protocols typically include rapid law enforcement response and immediate reporting, both of which played a key role in preventing harm in this case.

The coordination between the mother, bystanders and deputies underscores the importance of alertness and quick action in public safety incidents.

The sheriff’s office continues to review French’s past interactions with law enforcement and the sequence of events during the incident.

Authorities are examining whether any procedural adjustments are needed to improve security for minors and vulnerable individuals in public venues.

Updates are expected as the investigation progresses, with officials monitoring both the legal process and the child’s welfare.

Community reaction has been mixed.

Many residents praised the mother’s quick response and the deputies’ rapid intervention, while others raised questions about security measures in public buildings where children are present.

The episode has prompted renewed discussions about courthouse safety, emergency preparedness and the need for clear protocols when unusual incidents occur.

This case serves as a reminder that even in controlled public spaces, vigilance and immediate intervention are critical.

Authorities emphasized that protecting minors and ensuring public safety remain top priorities, while ongoing reviews aim to prevent similar incidents in the future.
