Videos shared online show firefighters battling intense heat and heavy smoke, though the cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether anyone has been injured.

Residents across Raleigh reacted with shock as images of the burning convention center spread on social media. For many, the building carries personal and community significance.

One resident wrote, “The Raleigh Convention Center is on fire. Awful to see. I have so many good memories tied to that place. I really hope everyone is safe.”

Another person in west Raleigh noted the impact even miles away, saying, “I’m near NCSU and there’s a strong burning plastic smell in the air.”

A third resident highlighted the venue’s importance to local organizations: “The Raleigh Convention Center, where the North Carolina Association of Free Will Baptists hosted the 2023 National Association meeting, is on fire. Let’s pray for the Raleigh Fire Department and everyone working to contain it.”

Others echoed the same concern and sadness, with one user posting, “Seeing the convention center burn is heartbreaking. I just hope no one gets hurt.”
