A pregnant woman remains in critical condition after a reported Tylenol overdose linked to a social media trend.
The woman, estimated to be between 23 and 25 weeks pregnant, is on a ventilator with severe liver failure.
Her unborn child’s survival is also in jeopardy as doctors attempt to sustain both lives.
The incident came to light after Nicole Sirotek, founder of American Frontline Nurses, shared details in a post on X.
She explained that she received a desperate phone call at 4 a.m. from the woman’s husband, who sought urgent guidance.
The overdose was carried out in response to President Trump’s public statement earlier this week, according to Sirotek.
The president warned about potential risks associated with acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, when taken during pregnancy.
He referenced studies, including research connected to Harvard University, that explored possible links between acetaminophen exposure in the womb and neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. echoed the president’s message.
“There is a potential association between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes, including later diagnosis for ADHD and autism,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would issue a physician’s notice and pursue a safety label change for acetaminophen.
He emphasized that the agency intends to ensure medical professionals and patients are aware of the possible risks.
Sirotek’s account described the woman’s condition as dire. “Got a frantic call at 4am from a husband who was given my phone number via someone who had it.”
“His pregnant wife is now on a ventilator dying of liver failure trying to ‘prove’ that Tylenol doesn’t cause autism since this is trending in TikTok,” she wrote.
Sirotek explained that the husband now faces an agonizing decision.
“He now has to make the tough decision to try and save an unborn baby that may not survive outside the womb at an approx gestation of 23-25wks,” she said.
The nurse added that the woman is unlikely to survive.
“At the same time his wife won’t survive through the week and will never get to meet her baby. This behavior is ridiculous,” Sirotek added.
“This woman hated Trump so much because of the HARVARD STUDY on Tylenol and Autism she ultimately killed herself by overdosing on Tylenol to try and ‘prove Trump wrong.’ Her baby may not even survive either,” she wrote.
In her statement, Sirotek added that the overdose was fueled by political hostility and social media attention.
“Her husband now may lose his entire family because of the craziness of liberal women chasing TikTok clout with TDS,” she said, using the term “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
In a video posted later, Sirotek provided additional details.
“I got a very frantic call at 4:00 in the morning from a husband whose wife is now dying of liver failure on a ventilator in an ICU because she was trying to prove that Tylenol doesn’t cause autism — because of what Trump said. Mind you, that’s a Harvard study,” she explained.
Sirotek stressed the severity of the situation.
“Now, whether or not you believe the Harvard study is not the issue here. The issue is that she’s somewhere between 23 to 25 weeks, and she overdosed on Tylenol. She’s going to die. She’s not going to come off that ventilator,” she said.
She also described the effects of a Tylenol overdose.
“Let me tell you something about Tylenol overdosing and death: if you aren’t administered the antidote, it is a very slow and painful death. The baby’s not going to grow up with the mom. He’s lost his whole life if this baby dies too—all because of TikTok challenges.”
Reports indicate that pregnant women across social media platforms have shared videos mocking President Trump’s remarks and Kennedy’s warning. In several of the videos, women can be seen swallowing Tylenol pills as part of the trend.
