President Donald Trump said the quiet part out loud about former President Barack Obama in his latest televised interview.
Trump didn’t mince words when it came to his political rival, saying that the former president is the one responsible for “destroying democracy” by spying on his presidential campaign in 2016.
For years, Trump has claimed that Obama was engaged in an extensive scheme to spy on his 2016 presidential campaign.
In 2017, notably, the president accused Obama of planting a listening device inside Trump Tower during the election. Then-FBI Director James Comey denied such a claim.
Comey is currently in hot water after being indicted by a federal grand jury in September on charges of making false statements and obstruction.
Years after the 2017 claim, the president is once again making the bombshell claim that there was an espionage plot against his campaign orchestrated by Obama.
Trump began the sit-down interview with Fox News by pointing out that Obama constantly says democracy is under attack, as the Daily Mail reported.
“He says that all the time. He’s the one that threatened it, by spying on my campaign. He started it. Obama spied on my campaign, and he did it knowing it was illegal,” Trump claimed.
“He knew it was illegal, but he started the whole thing. And there were a lot of dishonest people, and I suspect they’ll be caught,” the president added.
Trump’s latest remarks are an indictment of the Obama administration. It also serves as proof that the president’s mind has not changed about his claims of espionage.
In July, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard publicly released an extensive report with evidence demonstrating that the Obama administration created a false intelligence report to undermine the Trump presidency in 2017.
The report, first produced by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) in 2020, “details how the Obama Administration manufactured an Intelligence Community Assessment they knew was false.” It focuses on claims that the Democratic administration fabricated evidence to make it seem like Trump colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 election.
“President Obama directed the creation of this January 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment after President Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, and it served as the basis for what was essentially a years-long coup against the duly elected President of the United States, subverting the will of the American people and attempting to delegitimize Donald Trump’s presidency,” the report stated.
Gabbard, at the time, emphasized the importance of such a report, noting that it proved that a presidential administration lied to Americans in order to push a false narrative against its political opponent.
The stunning revelations these intelligence documents expose should concern every American. There is irrefutable evidence detailing how President Obama and his national security team directed the creation of an Intelligence Community Assessment that they knew was false, promoting the contrived narrative that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to help President Trump win, as though it were true,” she said.
