Actor Julian McMahon, widely recognized for his roles in Nip/Tuck and the Fantastic Four films, dead at the age of 56 following a private fight with cancer.
His wife, Kelly McMahon, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement released to Deadline on Friday, July 4. She shared that Julian died peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, in Clearwater, Florida.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly wrote. While she did not disclose the specific type of cancer, she described his fight as courageous and dignified.
Julian McMahon rose to fame in the early 2000s for his role as the slick, controversial plastic surgeon Dr. Christian Troy on FX’s Nip/Tuck, a performance that earned him widespread acclaim. He also portrayed the villainous Victor Von Doom in the 2005 and 2007 Fantastic Four films, solidifying his place in pop culture.
“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans,” Kelly added. “His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.”
McMahon, the son of former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon, began his career as a model before transitioning to acting. Over the years, he became a familiar face on both television and the big screen, also appearing in Charmed, Runaways, and Profiler.
Kelly asked for privacy as the family grieves this devastating loss, while expressing thanks for the outpouring of love and support they’ve received.
“We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy,” she said. “And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”
The entertainment world has lost a gifted actor, and fans around the world are mourning the death of a man remembered as much for his charisma on-screen as for his warmth off it.
This is a developing story.
