Newsom Suffers Viral Humiliation

President Donald Trump took aim at California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) after sharing a viral video showing scenes from downtown Los Angeles that he used to highlight ongoing issues in the state.

The footage, which quickly gained traction online, showed a woman using a wrench to open a fire hydrant and collect water to wash blankets on a sidewalk.

The video was framed as a snapshot of daily life in Los Angeles, with narration emphasizing that the situation was not staged or exaggerated but part of the reality people are experiencing.

Trump posted the video on social media, where it drew significant attention and sparked strong reactions. The clip amassed hundreds of thousands of views within hours, becoming a focal point in ongoing political debates about conditions in California’s largest city.

The president has frequently criticized California leadership, particularly on issues such as homelessness, crime, and public infrastructure. This latest post fits into a broader pattern of attacks aimed at highlighting what he describes as policy failures under Democratic leadership.

Online reactions were immediate and divided. Supporters of Trump pointed to the footage as evidence of declining conditions in Los Angeles, arguing that it reflects deeper problems tied to governance, economic policy, and public safety. Some users described the scene as unacceptable for a major U.S. city, especially one preparing to host global events.

Los Angeles is scheduled to host the 2028 Summer Olympics and is also set to be a venue for upcoming international sporting events. Critics of the city’s current condition questioned how it can serve as a global stage while dealing with visible issues related to homelessness and urban management.

Others, however, pushed back on the framing of the video, arguing that isolated incidents do not represent the entirety of the city. They suggested that the clip was being used selectively to reinforce a political narrative rather than provide a full picture of conditions in Los Angeles.

The video also revived past tensions between Trump and Newsom, particularly over infrastructure concerns.

During the Palisades wildfire last year, Trump criticized California officials over reports that some fire hydrants were not functioning effectively during emergency response efforts. Newsom later ordered an investigation into the issue, citing the need for accountability and clarity, the Daily Mail reported.

Officials at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said at the time that the system had not run out of water but had been strained by demand that surged far beyond normal levels, leading to pressure issues in certain areas.

The latest incident adds to ongoing scrutiny of leadership in Los Angeles, where Mayor Karen Bass is facing political pressure ahead of an upcoming primary election. Polling suggests she remains the frontrunner, but her approval ratings have been affected by criticism over her handling of recent crises.

The broader debate reflects a familiar divide. One side sees the video as proof of systemic failure tied to policy decisions. The other views it as a narrow portrayal used to advance a political argument.
