Emmy-award-winning actor Alec Baldwin crashed a Range Rover into a tree while driving through the Hamptons with his brother on Monday, according to photos obtained by the New York Post.
The 67-year-old actor was photographed at the crash site looking disheveled and annoyed as he made a phone call and stood with his hands in his pockets.
His white Range Rover sustained significant front-end damage after colliding head-on with a tree on the side of Montauk Highway in East Hampton, where Baldwin owns a summer residence.
East Hampton police officers quickly arrived at the scene and provided shelter for Baldwin and his brother during heavy rainfall.
The Post contacted the East Hampton Police Department for official confirmation of the incident.
The outlet noted that Baldwin had been in the Hamptons for the Hamptons International Film Festival, which took place from Oct. 5 to Oct. 13.
The actor serves as co-chair of the festival’s Board Executive Committee.
A source told Page Six that Baldwin maintained an active presence throughout the event.
He attended film screenings and moderated discussion panels during the week-long festival.
The actor addressed the crash in a video posted to his Instagram account.
He revealed that the damaged Range Rover belonged to his wife, Hilaria Baldwin.
Baldwin appeared in the video wearing the same clothes from the crash.
He provided a lengthy explanation of the accident, which he attributed to a garbage truck that allegedly cut him off.
The actor described the truck as being “the size of a whale.”
He stated that he struck the tree while attempting to avoid a collision with the garbage truck.
“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, I’m fine, and my brother’s fine,” Baldwin said in the video.
Baldwin expressed regret about damaging his wife’s vehicle.
He emphasized that both he and his brother emerged from the crash unharmed.
The actor praised the responding officers, specifically mentioning an “Officer Gerken” with the East Hampton Police Department.
Baldwin described the local law enforcement response in glowing terms.
“As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing,” Baldwin said of the officer who responded to the scene.
His Instagram video also included congratulations to film festival participants.
He concluded with a personal message to his wife, who was recently eliminated from the television competition “Dancing With The Stars.”
“Hilaria, I love you more than anything. I’m very proud of you,” Baldwin said in the video, though the specific reason for his praise remained unclear.
The Post highlighted that Baldwin has lived in the Hamptons since the early 1980s.
He reached 40 years of sobriety in May of this year.
The actor has attempted to sell his East Hampton property without success as he property was initially listed for sale less than a year after the “Rust” film set incident.
During that incident, Baldwin accidentally discharged a prop gun that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Baldwin maintained that he did not pull the trigger of the weapon, which should not have contained live ammunition.
The criminal case against Baldwin was dismissed in July 2024.
