Nancy Guthrie: Man Briefly Detained Arrested Again

Eight months after Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home in Tucson, investigators have not publicly named a suspect, and no one has announced where the 84-year-old woman is today.

A man whom police stopped and released on a single day in February is now back in custody. Officials say the reason has nothing to do with her.

Deputies booked Luke Daley, 37, into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on September 30, 2026.

A Pima County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson confirmed the booking to Fox News Digital and addressed whether it connects to the Guthrie case.

“Luke Daley was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex on September 30, 2026,” the spokesperson said. “This is unrelated to the Nancy Guthrie case.”

Daley’s name first surfaced in the Guthrie investigation on Feb. 13. On that day, police pulled him over in the parking lot of a Culver’s restaurant.

Officers also raided his mother’s home while they worked the kidnapping case.

Guthrie’s residence sits roughly two miles from that restaurant, in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson. Someone took her from that house.

Police let Daley go within hours of the stop. They filed no charges against him.

His attorney, Chris Scileppi, then released a statement defending his client.

“Mr. Daley has no link whatsoever to Nancy Guthrie and has no information related to her kidnapping,” Scileppi said.

The attorney continued with a message about the missing woman. “Like the entire Tucson community, both Mr. Daley and his mother are hopeful that Nancy will be returned to her family unharmed.”

More than seven months separate the February traffic stop from the September booking.

Daley’s legal history predates the Guthrie investigation. He carries a lengthy criminal record, and it includes prior felony convictions.

Court cases were already pending against him when deputies booked him this time.

He faced drug and firearm charges. He was also serving probation in a separate case involving drug and weapons violations.

Prosecutors have petitioned a court to revoke his probation in that earlier case.

The Guthrie investigation, meanwhile, has produced few public answers. Authorities have identified no suspects in her abduction.

A masked intruder appeared on her doorstep in Nest doorbell camera video around the time she was taken, and that person remains at large.

Guthrie is the mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie. She has now been missing for more than eight months.

Her family has received two notes from people claiming to be her kidnappers. Both arrived through online tip submission forms set up for the media.

One note demanded a ransom. The other claimed she had died unexpectedly.

Investigators have not identified the senders of either note. They have also not confirmed that the notes are authentic.

A combined reward of more than $1.2 million for information in the case remains unclaimed.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about Guthrie’s case to dial 1-800-CALL-FBI. People can also reach Tucson’s Crime Stoppers affiliate at 520-88-CRIME.
