Elon Musk is reportedly preparing to invest more than $100 million in the 2026 midterm elections, signaling a renewed push to help Republicans defend and expand their congressional majorities.
According to a report from The New York Times, Musk has authorized his political organization, America PAC, to spend between $100 million and $120 million on voter outreach efforts in key battleground states ahead of November’s elections.
The effort is expected to begin as early as next month and will focus on grassroots operations, including door-to-door canvassing and voter contact campaigns in competitive Senate and House races.
If fully implemented, the investment would make Musk one of the Republican Party’s largest financial supporters during the midterm election cycle.
People familiar with the plans told the newspaper America PAC intends to target Senate contests in Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan and Ohio. The group is also reportedly considering investments in North Carolina, Georgia and Texas.
House races are also expected to receive significant support, with California, Washington and Wisconsin among the states under consideration.
America PAC declined to discuss its budget or specific campaign strategy but confirmed it plans to play an active role in competitive congressional races this fall.
The reported investment follows months of speculation surrounding Musk’s political future after his highly publicized split with President Donald Trump last year and comments suggesting he might support creating a third political party.
According to the report, Musk has since repaired his relationship with Trump and is once again expected to play a major financial role in Republican politics.
During the 2024 election cycle, Musk emerged as the GOP’s largest individual donor, reportedly spending nearly $300 million to support Trump and other Republican candidates.
He also served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, during Trump’s second term.
Unlike the 2024 campaign, however, Musk is not expected to take on a prominent public role.
Instead, America PAC is reportedly focusing on building a large field operation aimed at increasing Republican voter turnout in closely contested races.
The organization is also expected to coordinate with conservative groups, including Americans for Prosperity and Sentinel Action Fund, as Republicans expand cooperation following a recent Supreme Court ruling that reduced restrictions on coordination between party committees and candidates.
Chris Young, Musk’s longtime political adviser who oversaw America PAC’s 2024 operations, is expected to lead the new midterm effort.
The reported spending comes as Republicans seek to maintain and potentially expand their congressional majorities while Democrats continue posting strong fundraising numbers in several competitive races.
According to the report, Musk’s financial commitment could provide Republicans with an additional advantage through outside political organizations and super PAC spending during the final months before Election Day.
The planned investment represents a shift from Musk’s public comments following a conservative-backed candidate’s loss in the 2025 Wisconsin Supreme Court race, per Trending Politics.
At the time, Musk said he intended to spend “a lot less” on politics because he believed he had already “done enough.”
More recently, Musk told The Economist he believed he had become too involved in politics, saying, “I think I got a little too involved in politics. I got carried away, frankly.”
Despite those remarks, The New York Times reported Musk is now preparing to once again become one of the Republican Party’s most influential financial backers as the 2026 midterm campaign enters its final stretch.
