Joy Reid Rants Against Trump’s Ballroom

Former MSNBC commentator Joy Reid went on a rant against President Donald Trump for demolishing the East Wing to create a 90,000 square feet ballroom.

Reid has, for years, criticized nearly every move that Trump has made.

She departed MSNBC in February after her show “The ReidOut” was cancelled as part of a major shake-up at the network.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” she said in response to the cancellation. “So very proud of The Reidout @joy.msnbc.com team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters & friends.”

Now, Reid is using her social media to rebuke the Trump administration for constructing a new ballroom.

The ex-MSNBC host criticized the president for spending money to build a ballroom rather than directing those funds to healthcare and American citizens.

“We have the money to do this to your White House,” Reid said, showing a video of construction machines demolishing the East Wing. “But no money for you. No money for food stamps.”

“People are going to run out of food stamps. Those are not going to be renewed,” Reid added. “That’s going to create a crisis of hunger across this country. We have no money for that. No money for food stamps. No money to pay federal workers. We’re going to fire, lay off federal workers. No money to pay the TSA agents keeping you safe or the air traffic controllers to make sure your planes don’t crash. No money for that.”

“But we have money for this? Make it make sense. Is that how you want your money? Is this what you voted for? Cause if this is Making America Great Again, we need to stop Making America Great Again cause I’m exhausted,” she went on.

Reid was instantly fact-checked by conservatives on X, who noted that Trump is using his personal money to pay for the ballroom, not taxpayer funds.

“Joy Reid posted an unhinged rant, crying about the ballroom that Trump is building, and claims it’s taxpayer-funded. The ballroom is 100% funded by Trump and private donors. She’s either extremely dumb or a liar, or the more likely option: BOTH:,” Libs of TikTok wrote.

The Trump administration has explained that adding a ballroom is essential to hosting functions with global leaders.

“The White House is one of the most beautiful and historic buildings in the world, yet the White House is currently unable to host major functions honoring world leaders and other countries without having to install a large and unsightly tent approximately 100 yards away from the main building entrance,” the statement read.

“The White House State Ballroom will be a much-needed and exquisite addition of approximately 90,000 total square feet of ornately designed and carefully crafted space, with a seated capacity of 650 people — a significant increase from the 200-person seated capacity in the East Room of the White House,” it added.

The White House released a separate press release noting that 13 presidents, including Trump in his first term, have conducted expansive renovations to the White House.

Reid, a staunch supporter of former President Barack Obama, never complained when the former president “resurfaced the south-grounds tennis court into a basketball court and added the White House Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn,” as the White House reported.

As the White House announced, McCrery Architects will serve as the lead architect of the historic project.
