Jesse Jackson’s Son Hits Obama and Biden Hard With Blistering Rebuke

Jesse Jackson’s son sharply rebuked three former U.S. presidents for remarks delivered during his father’s memorial, saying their speeches misrepresented the civil rights icon.

A day after the widely attended service, Jackson Jr. criticized former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton, arguing their comments failed to honor his father’s enduring impact.

The memorial drew national attention as political leaders, activists, and supporters reflected on Jackson’s decades of work for civil rights.

Speaking at a separate gathering at the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters in Chicago, Jackson Jr. said the former presidents’ statements did not capture his father’s complex relationship with political power.

The private event followed the public service at the House of Hope Church.

“Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson,” Jackson Jr. said. “He maintained a tense relationship with the political order, not because the presidents were White or Black, but the demands of our message, the demands of speaking for the least of these—those who are disinherited, the damned, the dispossessed, the disrespected—demanded not Democratic or Republican solutions, but demanded a consistent, prophetic voice that at no point in time sold us out as a people.”

Rev. Jackson died Feb. 17 at the age of 84 at his Chicago home.

Across decades of activism, he emerged as a leading civil rights figure, founding the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and championing voting rights, economic opportunity, and social reform.

Several political leaders delivered tributes during the memorial, recalling Jackson’s career and influence on national discussions about equality and justice.

Speakers emphasized his work organizing grassroots movements and raising awareness of social and economic disparities.

During the service, Obama addressed what he described as growing divisions in the United States and challenges facing national institutions.

“Each day, we’re told by those in high office to fear each other and to turn on each other, and that some Americans count more than others, and that some don’t even count at all,” Obama said, according to the New York Post.

He added, “Everywhere we see greed and bigotry, being celebrated and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength. It’s hard to hope in those moments.”

Biden reflected on Jackson’s influence and highlighted the civil rights leader’s message of perseverance and unity.

“Jesse kept hope alive for us in his lifetime, and we’ve got to continue to do it, because there’s nothing beyond our capacity when we work together,” Biden said, according to the Hindustan Times. “Nothing, nothing, nothing. So stand up and finish his job.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke, referencing political developments after the 2024 election.

“I’m not into saying I told you so, but we did see it coming,” Harris said. “But what I did not predict is that we would not have Jesse Jackson with us right now to help us get through this.”

Clinton focused on personal reflections, recalling how Jackson challenged him during his presidency and encouraged him to confront difficult policy issues.

Clinton said Jackson “made me a better president” by pushing him to tackle significant national concerns.

Jackson Jr.’s remarks highlighted his father’s independent approach to politics, noting that Rev. Jackson consistently challenged leaders from both parties while advocating for marginalized communities.

His mission centered on representing those often overlooked in national debates.

The public and private memorials brought together leaders from politics, faith, and civil rights organizations, highlighting the lasting influence Jackson had on American public life.
