Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has received over 200,000 applications from individuals seeking to become agents since the Trump administration utilized the agency to enforce its strict immigration policies.
Since President Donald Trump took office, he has made combating illegal immigration one of his top priorities.
The president has deployed ICE across the country in large cities, mostly run by Democrats.
Given that a bulk of illegal immigrants reside in so-called sanctuary cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City, ICE currently bears a heavy presence in these areas.
ICE’s measures have been heavily slammed by Democrats, who believe the agency’s actions are too extreme.
Protests have been held nationwide against ICE and the president.
Despite the wave of backlash, ICE is experiencing a massive surge in applications, according to The New York Post.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced on Friday that more than 200,000 “patriotic Americans” are applying to join ICE.
“ICE has received more than 200,000 applications from patriotic Americans who want to defend the homeland by removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from the U.S. Americans are answering their country’s call to serve and help remove murderers, pedophiles, rapists, terrorists, and gang members from our country,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem revealed.
Noem’s revelation serves as disastrous to top Democrats like Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D), California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), all of whom have publicly denounced ICE.
Pritzker notably signed an executive order last month establishing a commission that will document civil rights violations by ICE.
The Illinois governor claimed that the agency is discriminating against minority groups, CBS News reported.
“They are attacking people on the ground — ICE, CBP — going after people just because they’re Brown or Black,” Pritzker said. “No one above them is holding them responsible. Greg Bovino, who is running the operation in Chicago, isn’t holding them accountable. No one is. So we’re going to have to keep a record.”
Like Pritzker, Newsom is not a fan of ICE.
The California Democrat accused the agency of acting as the Trump administration’s “secret police.”
Pelosi, meanwhile, took her ICE criticism to the next level and called on agents to be arrested.
“While the President may enjoy absolute immunity courtesy of his rogue Supreme Court, those who operate under his orders do not. Our state and local authorities may arrest federal agents if they break California law — and if they are convicted, the President cannot pardon them,” Pelosi said in a joint statement with Rep. Kevin Mullin (D-CA).
“The people of San Francisco will continue to stand with the patriotic immigrants who are the constant reinvigoration of America. We will not be intimidated by politically motivated fear tactics,” the duo added.
Despite their disdain for ICE and that of the Democratic Party, the agency is seeing a massive surge in applications.
