Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is facing renewed scrutiny after her name appeared in court exhibits connected to the massive Feeding Our Future fraud investigation in Minnesota.
The references surfaced during the 2025 federal trial of Aimee Bock, who was convicted on charges including wire fraud, conspiracy and bribery tied to a $250 million pandemic-era fraud scheme.
Federal prosecutors said Feeding Our Future falsely claimed to provide millions of meals to children during the COVID-19 pandemic while directing government money through shell companies and fraudulent food distribution operations.
Bock is currently awaiting sentencing scheduled for May 21 following her conviction in federal court connected to the investigation involving misuse of federal child nutrition funds.
According to reports, Omar’s name appeared in a Feb. 5, 2021 email exchange involving Bock under the subject line “help with USDA food program.”
Additional court exhibits reportedly referenced “Ilhan’s Office” during communications between Bock and former Feeding Our Future employee Abdikerm Eidleh.
Eidleh fled the US after being indicted in 2022 as part of the broader federal investigation involving alleged fraud tied to pandemic food assistance programs in Minnesota.
While exhibit lists referencing Omar have been publicly disclosed during the trial proceedings, the actual communications remain sealed by the court, leaving the broader context unclear.
Court records also reportedly reference text message exchanges between Bock and Omar that investigators allegedly discovered during a federal search of Bock’s Minnesota residence.
Federal prosecutors have not accused Omar of wrongdoing, and no criminal charges involving the Minnesota congresswoman have been announced in connection with the Feeding Our Future case.
The renewed attention comes after Omar did not appear at a recent hearing conducted by Minnesota’s Fraud Prevention Committee examining issues related to the fraud investigation and oversight concerns.
Committee chair Kristin Robbins later sent Omar a letter requesting documents and communications potentially connected to Feeding Our Future and associated individuals.
“I think it shows just incredible arrogance and disdain for the people of Minnesota,” Robbins said while criticizing Omar’s absence and lack of response to committee requests.
“She is refusing to show up and answer questions in person,” Robbins added while discussing efforts to obtain records and communications involving Omar’s congressional office.
Robbins said lawmakers are attempting to better understand any interactions between Omar’s office and individuals connected to Feeding Our Future during the period under federal investigation, per the Conservative Brief.
Critics have also pointed to Omar’s support for the MEALS Act, pandemic legislation that temporarily loosened oversight requirements involving federally funded food assistance programs during the COVID-19 emergency.
Supporters of the legislation argued the changes were necessary to speed food access during the pandemic, while opponents claimed the reduced oversight contributed to vulnerabilities that allowed fraud to expand.
