“Breaking Bad” actor RJ Mitte has died at the age of 34, according to a report published Monday.
A county official in Texas confirmed Mitte’s death, while his representatives also confirmed that the actor had passed away.
TMZ reported that Mitte died by suicide.
Law enforcement said the investigation remained ongoing.
Mitte was best known for playing Walter White Jr. on AMC’s hit series “Breaking Bad.”
His character was the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and Anna Gunn’s Skyler White, making Mitte a major part of the acclaimed drama throughout its run.
The role made him recognizable to millions of viewers and helped launch a career that extended beyond television.
Mitte had cerebral palsy, as did his character on “Breaking Bad,” and he became a prominent advocate for performers with disabilities.
He repeatedly pushed for greater representation and more opportunities for disabled actors in Hollywood.
Mitte also served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.
His advocacy work became an important part of his public life alongside his acting career.
He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, which supported charitable efforts and community programs.
The actor’s death comes less than a year after he announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Kennedy Suarez.
Mitte shared the engagement news in October 2025 and spoke enthusiastically about their future together.
“I’m thrilled to have found my person, my partner in life who makes me want to be better, no matter what we’re doing,” Mitte said at the time.
“Kennedy is my everything and I can’t wait to officially start our life together and see what adventures life takes us on next.”
The comments now take on added significance following news of his death.
Mitte’s portrayal of Walter White Jr. became one of the defining roles of his career.
“Breaking Bad” followed chemistry teacher Walter White as he entered the methamphetamine trade after receiving a cancer diagnosis, dramatically transforming his family’s life.
Mitte’s character was often caught in the middle of the increasingly destructive consequences of his father’s actions.
His performance also stood out because of the visibility it gave to an actor with cerebral palsy in one of television’s biggest shows, per Trending Politics.
Outside acting, Mitte used that visibility to advocate for disabled people and challenge stereotypes about what performers with disabilities could accomplish.
He frequently connected his own experience with broader efforts to improve inclusion in entertainment.
His work with charitable organizations extended that advocacy beyond Hollywood.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation, according to law enforcement.
No additional details about what happened were included in the report.
His passing brings an abrupt end to a career that combined television success with years of disability advocacy and charitable work.
Mitte was 34.
