Gabbard Drops Bombshell in Final ODNI Move

A new batch of declassified records released Thursday by outgoing Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard has renewed scrutiny of the federal government’s COVID-19 origins review and reignited debate over former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci’s role during the pandemic.

Gabbard said the documents were uncovered through an extended declassification review and include internal communications, intelligence assessments, and materials related to coronavirus research linked to China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.

She announced the release on what she described as her final day leading the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

Among the newly released records are internal discussions among intelligence officials considering whether Fauci should participate in government COVID-19 origins assessments.

Some officials raised concerns that his involvement could create the appearance of a conflict of interest, while others said his scientific background made him a useful resource for identifying experts and evaluating research, according to Fox News.

The documents also include references to Fauci’s interactions with federal research officials and intelligence-adjacent discussions during the pandemic period.

Gabbard said the materials raise questions about his role in how intelligence findings were developed and communicated to policymakers.

Gabbard further alleged the records indicate U.S. funding supported coronavirus research connected to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and that Fauci maintained contact with individuals involved in reviewing COVID-19 origins.

She said the materials reflect internal debate over how to assess the lab leak hypothesis in the early stages of the investigation.

The ODNI release also cites whistleblower allegations from intelligence personnel who claimed analysts faced retaliation after challenging conclusions favoring a natural-origin explanation for COVID-19.

Gabbard said those complaints have been referred for review by oversight officials.

The origins of COVID-19 remain disputed across U.S. intelligence agencies.

Some assessments have concluded the virus most likely emerged through natural transmission from animals to humans, while others have found a laboratory-related incident more plausible or unable to be ruled out based on available evidence, according to The Statesman.

Another portion of the material references prior congressional testimony by Fauci.

According to reporting on the documents, Gabbard said some communications appear inconsistent with his statements regarding his knowledge of or involvement in discussions with intelligence officials about viral research.

Fauci has previously denied wrongdoing and rejected claims that he misled Congress.

Fauci has also denied allegations that he intentionally funded dangerous research or sought to conceal information about COVID-19’s origins. The documents do not include any criminal findings, and Fauci has not publicly responded to the latest release.

The disclosure comes as Gabbard prepares to leave office.

Resist the Mainstream previously reported that she informed President Donald Trump that she would step down to support her husband, who has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

The release is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to revisit pandemic-era intelligence assessments, funding decisions, and public health conclusions.

Supporters have described the move as overdue transparency, while critics argue the documents do not establish wrongdoing and largely revisit long-contested interpretations of pandemic-related events.

The documents are expected to intensify ongoing disputes over the origins of COVID-19, the role of U.S. funding in overseas research, and how intelligence agencies evaluated competing hypotheses during the early stages of the outbreak.
