The FBI has arrested an Afghan man, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, who is accused of plotting an Election Day attack inspired by the Islamic State, according to an AP report on Tuesday.
Authorities allege that Tawhedi had been stockpiling automatic weapons and was in the process of liquidating his family’s assets to carry out the attack. After his arrest, Tawhedi reportedly confessed to planning an assault that would target large crowds.
“Terrorism remains the FBI’s top priority, and we will deploy every resource to safeguard the American people,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray in a statement.
