Tech mogul Elon Musk faced widespread criticism on his social media platform Tuesday following remarks about actress Sydney Sweeney’s appearance at a film premiere.
The 54-year-old entrepreneur posted content about the 28-year-old star after she attended the Los Angeles premiere of her upcoming psychological thriller The Housemaid.
Sweeney appeared at the event wearing a white low-cut dress with a feather-decorated skirt, drawing attention on the red carpet.
Musk responded to video footage from the premiere by sharing an AI-generated image.
The graphic displayed a photograph of a woman alongside an illustration of a spine highlighted in red. The image included a caption and audio of a voice saying “Owie” in a childish manner, apparently referencing back discomfort.
Users on the platform criticized Musk for commenting on the actress’s physical appearance, with particular focus on their age difference.
One user pointed out that Sweeney is 30 years younger than the billionaire, calling the post “weird.” The comment rounded up their actual 26-year age gap.
TrueAnon podcast co-host Brace Belden responded sarcastically to the post, writing “GREAT point.” Meanwhile, another user questioned Musk’s decision to make the post.
Some critics drew comparisons to previous posts Musk has made directed at younger women.
One user referenced a September 2024 post Musk made addressing singer Taylor Swift.
At that time, Musk wrote “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life” in response to Swift’s presidential endorsement of Kamala Harris during the 2024 election.
The user compared both incidents, questioning which was “more pathetic” before reflecting on how public perception of Musk has shifted since 2018, stating “Back in 2018, learning about this guy was like learning about real world Iron Man.”
Sweeney attended the Los Angeles premiere alongside co-star Amanda Seyfried, 40, who appears with her in The Housemaid.
The actress recently addressed questions about her physical appearance during an episode of Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test series.
During the segment, Sweeney and Seyfried took turns being connected to a polygraph machine while asking each other questions, with the device’s results displayed on screen.
Seyfried asked directly: “There’s been a question on everyone’s mind recently, and I just have to ask. Are your boobs real?”
Sweeney immediately responded, “Yes!”
Seyfried followed up by asking if Sweeney had “ever had any work done” on her breasts.
The actress answered “No, I’ve never gotten any work done anywhere.”
After a brief pause, the polygraph administrator determined Sweeney was being “truthful” in her response.
