The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a probe into six Democrats who urged service members to “refuse illegal orders” from President Donald Trump.
In a video released on social media, Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-NY) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), alongside Reps. Chris Deluzio (D-PA), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) and Jason Crow (D-CO) lambasted the Trump administration and called on U.S. troops to refuse so-called “illegal” orders.
“The threats to our Constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home,” Deluzio and Crow said.
Trump later took to Truth Social and expressed his fierce disagreement with the six Democrats, going as far as to call for them to be charged with sedition.
Trump’s comments came in response to an article from the Washington Examiner reporting on the video.
“IT’S CALLED SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” the president said. “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL.”
“Their words cannot be allowed to stand – We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET,” he added.
Slotkin reacted to the FBI’s announcement by questioning whether such a move was “appropriate.”
“Whether you agree with the video or don’t agree with the video, the question to me is: is this the appropriate response for a president of the United States to go after and seek to weaponize the federal government against those he disagrees with?” the New York senator said.
The Democrats reacted to the FBI’s request for an interview by rebuking the president and expressing their defiance, as the New York Post reported.
“President Trump is using the FBI as a tool to intimidate and harass Members of Congress,” the representatives involved said in a joint statement.
“No amount of intimidation or harassment will ever stop us from doing our jobs and honoring our Constitution,” they added. “We swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath lasts a lifetime, and we intend to keep it. We will not be bullied. We will never give up the ship.”
Conservatives on social media reacted to the FBI’s announcement with praise and noted that the six Democrats are in trouble for their actions.
“These Democrats have COOKED THEMSELVES. Now follow through and hold them accountable!” conservative commentator Eric Daugherty said.
Some X users went as far as to allege traitorous behavior by the Democrats.
“They are traitors to this country and should be treated accordingly,” AmericanPapaBear wrote.
FBI Director Kash Patel told CBS News reporter Catherine Herridge that the issue against the Democrats is an “ongoing matter,” according to the Washington Times.
“What goes through my head is the same thing that goes through my head in any case: is there a lawful predicate to open up an inquiry and investigation, or is there not? And that decision will be made by the career agents and analysts here at the FBI,” Patel said.
