Communist Mamdani Targets Kids

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) is expanding his push for taxpayer-funded universal childcare, announcing new programs that will now include children as young as two years old as part of his broader progressive agenda for the city.

During a recent event, Mamdani celebrated what he described as a major expansion of the city’s childcare system, revealing that New York had sent out 100,000 offers for pre-K and 3-K programs across all five boroughs.

“This was part of our announcement that we were adding 2,000 new 3-K seats,” Mamdani said while touting the initiative as a major step toward universal childcare in New York City.

The socialist mayor said his administration also focused on reducing commute times for parents by placing childcare options closer to neighborhoods where families live.

“Now, six blocks may not sound like a lot to you and me, but if you’re walking with a toddler, six blocks is quite a bit of time,” Mamdani stated.

He went on to praise the quality of the city-run programs while unveiling the newest phase of the initiative.

“We don’t just want universal child care to be something that’s remarkable because of the fact that everyone can access it at a technical level,” he said.

“Something that is in their own neighborhood, something that they can look at and marvel at the quality of the instruction,” Mamdani continued before announcing that the city’s programs would now begin serving two-year-olds “for the first time ever.”

The announcement is part of a broader push by Mamdani and Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul to dramatically expand government-funded childcare throughout the state.

Earlier this year, Mamdani and Hochul unveiled what they described as a “major step toward universal child care from six weeks to five years old,” including the rollout of free “2-K” seats in select communities.

The program is already generating backlash from critics who argue the city is expanding costly social programs while continuing to shield illegal immigrants under New York’s sanctuary city policies.

Mamdani made clear earlier this year that immigration status would not be checked for families enrolling children in the taxpayer-funded childcare system.

“Just to put it very clearly, these are programs for every single New Yorker,” Mamdani said previously.

“These are not programs that are going to ask the immigration status of any one of the children,” he added.

“All of those children are New Yorkers,” the mayor continued while reaffirming New York City’s sanctuary policies.

The comments immediately fueled criticism from conservatives who argue taxpayer-funded social programs are increasingly being extended to illegal immigrants at a time when many Americans are already struggling with rising living costs and taxes.

Mamdani has rapidly become one of the most controversial progressive figures in the country since taking office, with critics accusing him of attempting to transform New York City into a laboratory for far-left socialist policies, per Breitbart News.

The childcare expansion is just one part of a broader agenda that has included housing interventions, expanded government subsidies and major increases in city-run social programs.

The initiative has also drawn support from left-wing celebrities and activists, including controversial children’s entertainer Rachel Griffin Accurso, better known online as “Ms. Rachel.”

Accurso has recently used her social media platforms to criticize Immigration and Customs Enforcement and advocate against family detention policies involving illegal immigrants.

Mamdani has additionally enlisted rapper Cardi B to help promote the childcare initiative as the administration continues trying to build support for its expanding government-backed programs.
