A month ago, Clooney played a central role in helping Biden rake in $28M, reportedly the biggest one-day political haul in Democrat party history. Now, he wants Joe gone.
In an op-ed written in the New York Times this week, Clooney made it clear that Joe Biden doesn’t have a path to victory here, and others in his party agree.
“The one battle he cannot win is the fight against time,” Mr. Clooney wrote. “It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”

On Tuesday, as the Biden campaign learned that Mr. Clooney was preparing his opinion essay, campaign aides began what three people familiar with the effort described as a full-court press to persuade the actor not to publish it. Jeffrey Katzenberg, the movie mogul who is a co-chairman of the Biden campaign and its chief ambassador to Hollywood donors, led the effort to convince Mr. Clooney that he should stick with Mr. Biden, the three people said.

“We are not going to win in November with this president,” Mr. Clooney wrote. “On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private. Every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly.” — NYTimes
After watching Biden get smoked in the debate, Clooney pulled the Democrat emergency brake… sending out a message by way of no less an in-party conversation tool than the New York Times. (And did you notice that Mister ‘bottom up and middle out’ has an interesting choice for co-chair of his campaign? A ‘chief ambassador to Hollywood donors’. A real Man of the People, that Joe Biden.)
We learned that Clooney spoke to the Obama people before submitting this to the Times. Per Politico:
Before Hollywood icon and Democratic donor GEORGE CLOONEY published his buzzy and brutal NYT op-ed yesterday calling on Biden to step aide as the nominee, we’re told he reached out to former President BARACK OBAMA to give him a heads-up. The two men, who are friendly, both attended the L.A. fundraiser Clooney referenced in his piece, where the actor said he’d beheld a diminished Biden and that the leader he interacted with was “the same man we all witnessed at the debate.”
While Obama did not encourage or advise Clooney to say what he said, he also didn’t object to it, we’re told from people familiar with their exchange. The lack of pushback is an eye-popping revelation given that the former president was one of the first big voices defending Biden following his abysmal debate performance (while many of his former aides have been some of the incumbent’s biggest critics). — Politico
The whole opinion piece can be found here.
The entire piece is about one thing: looking for a strategy for the Democrats to beat the Republicans in 2024.
It has nothing to say about how the party rigged the primaries, how the media lied to us, how everyone in politics pretended they didn’t see an old man sliding into decrepitude, tasked with some of the most critical decisions on the planet, while seeming unclear on where he is or what he is doing.
It was evident to all — including Clooney — that however mediocre, venal, and smarmy he had been in years gone by, the man he is today is barely a shadow of the man that served for decades as the senior senator to Delaware.
People are now pouring out of the woodwork announcing that they knew about Biden’s ‘newfound’ infirmity all this time, but refused to say anything about it. Why is that, do you think?
The man who represents America in top-level negotiations with foreign leaders was given a pass on criminal charges because he was deemed incompetent to stand trial… and the press STILL didn’t ask questions?
Hollywood A-listers STILL hosted fundraisers?
Even now, Democrats — including people like AOC and Bernie who had nothing but contempt for the man, astonished that they could even be housed within the same political party — are ready to go to the proverbial barricades in defense of their leader if the Dems have themsleves a leadership civil war.
The one question people SHOULD have been asking, but weren’t is the one about what’s best for America… today.
Dems want Joe gone not because he’s unable to fulfil and discharge the duties required of a President of the United States of America… but because they are afraid that he will lose to the Other Guy.
At the very same time… and for the same cynical calculations… the same people who want him gone are NOT invoking the 25th Amendment, which is really the cleanest way to cut the Gordian Knot.
Unfortunately, that would expose their entire Primary process for the farce it has been. He didn’t suddenly have a stroke that cost him his cognitive function… he’s been headed down this road for a very, VERY long time.
And anyone who tried to bring it up was accused of ‘gaslighting’ and ‘cheap fakes’.
Someone has been running the country. But more and more it seems that people claiming it is being run by committee — rather than the duly-elected Commander-in-Chief — have compelling evidence to back up that claim.
In ‘defence of democracy’, they have conspired to subvert it.
While the media dutifully provided the darkness in which it dies.
