Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo recently delivered a scathing critique of the political left, accusing them of dismissing the seriousness of an assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
In a passionate monologue, Cuomo highlighted the hypocrisy and lack of empathy shown in the reaction to the incident, which he argued underscores why many Americans feel disconnected from progressive narratives.
While Cuomo has often faced criticism for his commentary, he deserves credit for addressing this sensitive issue with a dose of honesty.
Cuomo’s comments centered on the first assassination attempt against Trump, where the former president was grazed by a bullet. The incident, which could have had far graver consequences, was met with muted reactions from some on the left, an approach Cuomo condemned as politically and morally misguided.
“Fuck you! You get nicked in the ear by a bullet and tell me that it’s no big deal,” Cuomo said during his broadcast. “I’m good. I’m good. Nah, nah, that’s crazy.
If that had happened to Harris, you guys would have talked about it for three days nonstop about how we’re in helter-skelter mode or whatever it is.”
.@ChrisCuomo on “lefties” downplaying the Trump assassination attempt:
“That’s exactly why you lost the election. You are out of touch. You lost the plot about how people feel in the majority. That’s what you did, and that was a perfect example of it, that situation. ‘Oh, I… pic.twitter.com/fIVCJmrYsQ

He argued that such a dismissive reaction wouldn’t have occurred had Vice President Kamala Harris been the target, suggesting that the double standard highlights a broader issue with the left’s priorities and messaging.
Cuomo’s frustration stems from what he perceives as a missed opportunity for the left to connect with the broader American public.
Instead of acknowledging the gravity of the situation and condemning violence unequivocally, some left-leaning voices minimized the event, a move Cuomo says alienates average Americans.
“And then you call me a bigot for saying that this is why you lost the election,” Cuomo continued. “That’s exactly why you lost the election. You are out of touch. You lost the plot about how people feel in the majority. That’s what you did.”
The former anchor didn’t hold back in criticizing the apparent lack of decency shown by those who wished for a worse outcome. “How fucked up is that? That you wished he had died? That you played down that he was shot. It was disgusting,” he said.
Cuomo’s comments also included a critique of Trump himself, stating that the former president is “not the standard of any kind of virtue.” However, he acknowledged that Trump’s ability to resonate with voters, even in the face of significant controversy, is a reflection of the disconnect between left-wing elites and the everyday concerns of the electorate.
“He still beat you,” Cuomo pointed out, attributing Trump’s political success to the left’s failure to address the frustrations of the majority.
The monologue, which was shared widely on social media, sparked significant discussion. Supporters praised Cuomo for his candor, noting that it’s rare for a media personality with his background to criticize the left so directly. Others, however, pushed back on his framing, arguing that the left’s response was not as dismissive as he claimed.
A clip of Cuomo’s remarks was posted on Twitter, where he reiterated his key points:
