BREAKING: Suspect in Charlie Kirk Shooting Captured

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on X that the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk is now in custody.

“The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with @FBI. We will provide updates when able,” Patel wrote.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox also confirmed the news in a press conference.

“We have a person of interest in custody that is being interviewed right now,” he said. “There is no information that would lead us to believe that there is a second person involved.”

Prior to the update, Cox added, “And I just want to remind people that we still have the death penalty here in the state of Utah,” per USA Today.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the suspect, including their identity or motive. They have stated that they do believe that Kirk was indeed the target.

Officials have promised to provide updates as the investigation continues.

The shooting occurred during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, tragically claiming Kirk’s life.

The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of public figures and the growing threat of politically motivated violence at public events.

Law enforcement is urging anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward as the investigation remains active.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
