BREAKING: Steve Bannon’s lawyers file request for him to be released

Attorneys representing Steve Bannon, the host of War Room and former Trump adviser, filed a motion on Thursday requesting that a judge grant him bail while several legal petitions are still under consideration in the courts.

“The Court should reinstate its order granting bail pending appeal so that Mr. Bannon does not have to serve his entire sentence” before the DC Circuit or Supreme Court “can evaluate his case on its merits,” wrote attorneys Trent McCotter and Evan Corcoran.

They also argued that if bail is denied, “Mr. Bannon respectfully requests that the Court reduce his sentence (even by just a few days per conviction) and impose a brief period of supervised release, so he can qualify to use First Step Act credits.”

Bannon began serving his four-month sentence at a federal prison in Connecticut on July 1 and is scheduled for release on October 29. His conviction stems from contempt of Congress charges for defying a subpoena from the January 6 Committee, related to communications that were initially considered protected under executive privilege. Although Trump later waived that privilege, allowing Bannon to comply, Congress and the courts proceeded with the charges.
